Middle School Math: Everything You Need to Know. This class was created using the curriculum for grades 6–8 and is a good prerequisite for Pre-Algebra. The bulk of the material in this class deals with the Number Sense skill set, which forms the foundation for all future math classes. Data Analysis, Geometry, Measurement and Algebra standards are also covered. Classes are taught by a retired math teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience. Students will learn through direct instruction, cooperative groups, manipulatives, formula sheets, and worksheets. This course prepares students to be mathematically literate as well as preparing them for future math courses, including Pre-Algebra. Students will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout class. This class is kept to eight students or less to ensure each student has a chance to participate in the discussion. Lessons are taught using Google Slides, and note-taking tips are also discussed. Students will have a small amount of work to complete outside of class. More work to reinforce a lesson can/may be given if an individual student needs extra practice. This class will meet for two 45-minute sessions each week, and students will be given practice work after each class. This class is "ongoing," which means that students can join for the entire 36-week course or can join for specific topics as needed. This format gives parents flexibility without having to commit to an entire year long course. Classes are charged weekly, and you can enroll or withdraw at any time.
