The selected song may be a folk song or other genre relevant to the culture being examined that week. Learners may also learn a song that has to do with a holiday celebrated in a particular culture such as the song "Auld Lang Syne" which is often sung on New Year's eve around the world. After learning the weekly song, learners will receive a music appreciation lesson on the culture of the week. Learners can expect to learn details about the culture's history, geography, demographics as well as musical details such as unique instruments, musical elements, genres, composers, dances and more. Learners may be given either classwork or a brief homework assignment to complete after each week's lesson. 👩🏼🏫 Teacher Style As a teacher, I have often been described as "passionate", "caring" and "tech-savvy" by parents, students and administrators alike. While I enjoy creating structured lesson plans, I tend to embrace organic learning moments as they arise and I encourage learners to ask questions and discuss concepts introduced to them throughout the course. 🙋🏽 Learner Interaction: Learners are engaged throughout the course and asked to participate by singing, reading content on slides, answer critical thinking questions and ask questions as they arise. Learners will also be able to collaborate and share their thoughts on Padlet, a third-party tool utilized in this course (please see external resources and parental guidance for more information). 🧠 Required Experience or Knowledge: No prior musical background or knowledge is required; all curious minds are welcome to join this cultural expedition!

Orientación para padres
I want to ensure that all families are comfortable with the content of this course. In this course learners will be viewing videos of dance and costuming styles from other cultures including those of Indigenous cultures, Bollywood, samba and belly dancing. While I strive to present the dances of other cultures in a competent and respectful manner, I also understand that some families may have concerns based on their own cultural, religious, or social beliefs. Please feel free to reach out to me before (and after) enrollment to ask any questions you have about dance videos included in this ongoing course.
This class also uses COPPA-compliant third-party tools including Google Forms, Google Slides, and Padlet. Learners will need to have a Google account to access classwork and homework assignments on Google Slides and Forms. Learners have the option of creating a Padlet account but may also respond to prompts without posting their name. Lastly, all YouTube videos used in this course are directly embedded into class presentations, ensuring learners can watch directly from the Outschool platform.
