Nivel Beginner
The class will be five weeks long, following the course schedule below. Each class is 1 hour long and requires no prep beforehand. The students only need to bring themselves, a desire to learn about the business world, and a mindset that is ready to discuss, explore, and debate. We use the case method approach, meaning that each week students will receive a 1 page case write up of a business scenario and we will discuss and work through it live in class. This is not a lecture format. Students will be asked to participate, think on the fly, and communicate their view points. We strive to make these classes as engaging as they are educational, so we incorporate activities, games, and role playing. Students do NOT require any prior knowledge or experience of business. This course will teach them the introduction, while also teaching them to think like a CEO. All course material will be provided, so nothing additional is required from you. Week 1- Introduction to Business and Markets: The Obsidian Trade: Unearthing the Ancient Business in New Guinea Week 2- Markets: Physical vs Online: The Jewelry Shop Expansion Dilemma Week 3- Purpose of Business: The Inquisitive Daughter and the CEO Week 4- What are Business Stakeholders?: The Green Bean Café's Stakeholder Situation Week 5- Products vs. Services: The Lego Enthusiast's Quest for the Perfect Business

Students will receive an age appropriate introduction to business, become comfortable with basic business concepts, gain perspective on how businesses function, AND learn how to think critically, analyze problems, and communicate their viewpoints.

I received my MBA from Harvard Business School and studied the case method approach extensively, including teaching and writing cases. In addition I have worked in the business world for over 20 years in various roles including as a corporate strategist, entrepreneur, and CEO. I've worked at start-ups as well as companies as big as IBM. In addition I've taught at Kaplan Test prep and tutored elementary through high school for over 15 years.
