Unit 1Addition and SubtractionAddition and Subtraction2 lessons2 WeeksWeek 1Lesson 1Whole Number AdditionStudents will add multi-digit numbers vertically. Problems with and without regrouping (carrying) will be included.Week 2Lesson 2Whole Number SubtractionStudents will subtract multi-digit numbers vertically. Problems with and without decomposing (borrowing) will be included, including subtraction across zero.Unit 2MultiplicationMultiplication3 lessons3 WeeksWeek 3Lesson 3Equal Groups and Repeated Addition Models of MultiplicationStudents will use the equal groups and repeated addition models of multiplication to model and solve multiplication and division problems.Week 4Lesson 4Multiplication StrategiesStudents will be introduced to a few strategies to help them solve unknown multiplication problems. This includes breaking apart difficult problems into easier ones, a "finger trick" for the nines times tables, and a couple of mnemonics to help them remember specific facts.Week 5Lesson 5Multiplication Facts ReviewStudents will use the strategies they learned in order to solve multiplication facts with factors 0-12.Unit 3DivisionDivision3 lessons3 WeeksWeek 6Lesson 6Equal Groups Model of DivisionStudents will use equal groups to model and solve division problems.Week 7Lesson 7Division as the Inverse of MultiplicationStudents will use multiplication/division fact families as a meant to solve division facts using their existing multiplication knowledge.Week 8Lesson 8Division Facts ReviewStudents will solve division facts with factors 0-12.Unit 4FractionsFractions2 lessons2 WeeksWeek 9Lesson 9Fraction ModelsStudents will identify and model fractions using area models and number lines.Week 10Lesson 10Comparing FractionsStudents will use "greater than" and "less than" to compare fractions with either like numerators or denominators.Unit 5GeometryGeometry2 lessons2 WeeksWeek 11Lesson 11Identifying Two-Dimensional ShapesStudents will define the following properties of two-dimensional shapes: side, vertex, parallel lines, perpendicular lines, right angle Students will identify the following shapes according to their properties: parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, pentagon, octagon, triangle.Week 12Lesson 12Area and Perimeter of RectanglesStudents will calculate the area and perimeter of rectangles and answer using the appropriate units.
