In this three day, 3 session Winter Math workout camp, learners will gain an understanding of addition and subtraction fact families. They will listen to addition and subtraction stories read by the Teacher, act out and retell stories, learn facts by seeing pictures of each number character for easy recall and memorization of basic facts through 10 plus 10. Learners will gain an understanding of each operation [addition, subtraction] and the process through the grouping of manipulatives, manually moving and drawing various objects, using graph paper, tiles or blocks, skip counting and finger tricks as they develop math concepts.

The goal of this Math Winter workout camp is to help each learner understand the math that they see and exercise their brain, their thinking skills during Winter break. Learners learn much easier using visual and kinesthetic methods that are represented by 3-D manipulatives, blocks, cubes, legos, or coins which are all invaluable tools for helping the learner see how Math facts work together.

Whether the learner is new to addition and subtraction facts or needs to gain a clearer understanding, practice memorization and soar to the top of the class, this MATH Fact Families Rock: An Addition & Subtraction Intensive Winter Review camp is just for you.

Get ready, set, let's go!

Day 1: Understanding how addition works, grouping of manipulatives [objects], "fact families" stories, retelling stories, math songs, movement, skip count forward
Day 2: Understanding how subtraction works, practice taking away objects, writing simple equations, skip count backwards, math songs, "fact families" stories, retelling stories, math games
Day 3: Putting it all together: demonstrating an understanding of the relationship between addition & subtraction, reviewing mathematical terms & vocabulary, retelling math stories, songs, movement

Being an educator for forty + years, I've taught all subjects to students K-8 which included math classes at all levels. I've taught special needs students and designed full curriculum for K-12 students. In addition, I have taught students online for seven years. When I was a young student, I thought I didn't like math because any thing above addition and subtraction seemed a little hard for me. The truth was, I didn't understand the fundamentals of math operations, even though I could calculate and get the right answers every time when adding or subtracting. This is why I am so passionate about learners understanding the concept and relationship to numbers and operations, because once they understand that, learners can build on the basic fundamentals taught at this age and excel in Math and really begin to love it as I do now.
