In this ongoing class, learners meet 1X a week learning multiplication and division facts in a fun way. Learners will gain an understanding of multiplication and division, the relationship between the two, how real math works using manipulatives, arrays, songs, movement, skip counting and stories in this fun, engaging camp.

The goal of this Math class is to help each learner understand the math that they see. Learners learn much easier using visual and kinesthetic methods that are represented by 3-D manipulatives, unifix cubes, blocks, cubes, legos, popsicle sticks and coins which are all invaluable tools for helping the learner see how Math facts work together. We will be using such manipulatives each day in camp.

The learners will gain an understanding of what the multiplication and division process is through the grouping of manipulatives, manually moving and drawing various objects in arrays, using graph paper, tiles or blocks. Learners will work on hearing the numbers in sequence as they skip count, listening to stories about each different fact family, act it out and retell the story. Learners will sing multiplication and division songs cementing the concepts. They will practice finger tricks to learn and memorize the facts. Learners will have a CHALLENGE: a math riddle to answer. Understanding place value [ones, tens, hundreds, thousand], skip counting 3's, 4's, 6's, 7's, three methods of multiplication, mathematical terms & vocabulary, representation of multiplication problems with magnetic manipulatives

Practical application of multiplication, multiplication fact families, multiplication computation, mathematical terms & vocabulary, representation of multiplication problems with magnetic manipulatives, skip counting 6's, 7's, 8's, Putting it all together

Weeks of November
Understanding how division works, groups, arrays [rows, columns], repeated subtraction, skip counting forward & backwards, math songs, stories of "fact families," retelling stories, math riddles

Weeks of December
Understanding how multiplication & division complement each operation, grouping of manipulatives [objects], arrays [rows, columns], stories of "fact families," retelling stories, math songs, movement, math riddles, representation of division problems with magnetic manipulatives, division computation, division word problems and how to solve them, skip counting by 7's, 8's, 9's, 11's, tricks learning 7's and 9's time tables

Weeks of January
Understanding how addition & subtraction and multiplication & division complement each operation, repeated addition and how it relates to multiplication, 4 operations with word problems

Get ready, set, let's go learn the math facts like you've never done before! This is much more than just a rote memorization class. Multiplication and division the FUN way, a picture method of learning the multiplication and division facts.

For academic purposes, cameras and mics must be working and turned on for the duration of each lesson.

Learners use a Magnetic Base Ten kit in this course, depending on their math level skill. I recommend Simply Magic's Jumbo Colorful Magnetic Base Ten kit available from Amazon.
