🤔 WHAT IS THIS COURSE? Thank you for stopping by! In this ongoing class, students will read many different genres of literature including fiction, nonfiction, informational text, and poetry at the 5th grade level. In addition, math, grammar, and vocab topics will be reviewed as well. The classes do not build on one another. ❓ WHAT TOPICS WILL BE COVERED? Some of the main concepts we will learn about in class include: Reading: Main ideas, Summarizing, Inferences, Evidence, Figurative Language, Characterization, Author's Purpose, Themes, Fact vs Opinion, Foreshadowing, etc. Grammar: Parts of speech, sentence types, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, commonly confused words, and more. Math: Mathematical operations, fractions, decimals, word problems with operations, geometry concepts, probability, ratios/rates, percents. Writing skills and grade-level vocab are also covered. 👨🏫 HOW WILL THIS BE TAUGHT? Structure: 1. Warmup 2. Reading passage and questions 3. Vocab in context 4. Grammar mini-lesson and practice 5. Math skill review Topics are a "mixed review." Topics do not build as this class is a review of 5th grade skills. Reading passages are read independently by the student. Pdfs of all materials are provided.
