Unlock the power of algebraic reasoning with this online class tailored specifically for high school homeschoolers. Algebra 2 serves as a gateway to advanced mathematical concepts, laying the foundation for success in higher-level mathematics and various STEM disciplines. In this course, students will delve into a wide array of algebraic topics, from polynomial functions and logarithms to matrices and conic sections, empowering them to tackle complex mathematical problems with confidence and precision. Designed with the unique needs and learning styles of homeschool students in mind, this class provides a rich and engaging learning experience. Through a series of structured modules, students will build a strong conceptual understanding of algebraic principles while honing their problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities. Welcome to this year-long high school Algebra 2 class! After completing this course, students will have earned a high school math credit. Classes will be on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays.. ***Students should have completed Algebra 1 before taking this course. ***TEXT: Students will receive printable note pages and homework sheets. It is important they come to class with the printed notes and keep all their papers organized in a 3-ring binder. Classes will consist of lectures, examples, practice, and exploration. Students will be given an example or exploration activity, then will work with the instructor to understand problems then they will solve problems on their own. We will use various online activities (Desmos, Google Slides, Delta Math, etc.) to explore many concepts so that students can have a hands-on experience before completing homework assignments. Tests will be done outside of class and will be open book/open notes. This class will meet twice a week, involving students interacting with the teacher and completing weekly assignments/assessments and several projects throughout the course. I have taught homeschooled students since 2008 and am very accommodating with student needs; parents are welcome to contact me about any issues or concerns. ***NOTE: students should attend the online meeting on a laptop or desktop computer. Mobile devices are not conducive to the online activities included in this course.*** ***NOTE: Completing assignments is necessary to succeed in this class. *** ***NOTE: We will use Google Classroom to keep assignments organized*** Here is an overview of concepts that will be learned: -- Review of Algebra 1 Concepts: Refresh your knowledge of foundational algebraic concepts, including linear equations, inequalities, and functions. -- Polynomial Functions: Explore the properties and behaviors of polynomial functions, including degree, leading coefficients, roots, and end behavior. -- Rational Functions and Equations: Investigate the characteristics of rational functions, including asymptotes, intercepts, and transformations, and learn how to solve rational equations. -- Exponential and Logarithmic Functions: Delve into exponential and logarithmic functions, studying their properties, graphs, and applications in real-world contexts. -- Systems of Equations and Inequalities: Master the techniques for solving systems of linear and nonlinear equations and inequalities, including substitution, elimination, and graphing methods. -- Matrices and Determinants: Introduce the fundamentals of matrix algebra, including matrix operations, determinants, and solving systems of equations using matrices. -- Sequences and Series: Explore arithmetic and geometric sequences and series, studying their properties, sums, and applications in mathematical modeling. -- Conic Sections: Investigate the properties of conic sections, including circles, ellipses, hyperbolas, and parabolas, and learn how to analyze their equations and graphs. -- Probability and Statistics: Apply algebraic concepts to probability and statistics, studying probability models, distributions, and data analysis techniques. (if there is time) -- Advanced Topics and Applications: Extend your algebraic skills to tackle advanced topics and real-world applications, such as polynomial regression, complex numbers, and nonlinear modeling. Also, Parent Functions and Transformations, Complex Numbers, Radical Functions, and Trigonometry Sessions are available on Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays with 2 different start dates. - Monday/Wednesday Dates: - Monday, September 9 - Wednesday, June 11 - Tuesday/Thursday Dates: - Tuesday, August 20 - Thursday, May 22 There will be no class on the following days: - Labor Day - October 14, 15 - Veteran's Day - Thanksgiving week - Dec 16 - Jan 5 - Jan 20, 21 - March March 17-20 - April 21, 22 - Memorial Day

Maestría en Educación desde Strayer University
I majored in engineering before acquiring my bachelor’s of science in Computer Science (lots of math!) and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education. I have 14+ years of teaching many subjects and ages; however, I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry for high school students for the past nine years. I love teaching math and creating supplement assignments and activities to further understanding.
