In this ongoing class we create a new map each week. Everyone has the opportunity to talk, think and draw. The term "maps" is used for diagrams that help us navigate the world and are important, beautiful and useful. Class Structure I introduce a topic by showing images of a selection of maps and info-graphics as examples. We discuss the information we can learn about our world from these diagrams. This is an opportunity to interpret what we know through drawing and design, and perhaps even pick up new words and terms. While everyone draws their own unique map I will make suggestions on how to best represent your ideas, for example through scale, colour coding or compass coordinates. Examples of the Maps we Draw:* Design a Theme Park Pirate Treasure Map Fortified Castle Map Underground Mines Fantasy Kingdom Map *There are 36 unique maps! Please message me to find out about the upcoming maps we will draw. This class is ideal for children who love to draw and use their imagination. Each class provides an creative framework for your child to explore the world around them and learn graphic ways of representing their spatial ideas. Through the activity of making maps or info-graphics your child learns to solve problems and to present solutions through drawing. They will pick up many useful map reading skills and new vocabulary but the focus is on exploring visual representation of space.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a fully qualified teacher and through teaching English, German and French I foster a curiosity about different cultures and ways of life. I understand the challenges young learners face when trying to express ideas and found that drawing and discussing ideas is an excellent technique to help children gain confidence in writing and speaking. I have taken many school classes to explore historical sites around London, the city where I live and work, and then map them to show what they have observed and learned. I am also a trained artist and storyteller and bring geography and cultural studies alive through images and narratives. In addition I have worked as a graphic designer and taught visual communication to teenagers. My map making classes introduce graphic design skills to young learners.
