🔐 This class follows the 101 + 201 course. This class builds on foundation skills and bridges student's knowledge into an exploration of creative voice and the question of "how can we use these skills to make art?" You can view the class series here: https://outschool.com/saved-classes/c456d7ae-ea21-48fe-93fd-b750640362aa 🖇️ Prerequisite: It is recommended that students have completed or be scheduled to complete Manual DSLR Photography 101+201 for Teens before they start this class. You do not need to wait for that class to end before enrolling, however! If you think you have/your learner has similar experience and that this class would be a good fit, feel free to message me! ⏳ Estimated Time Commitment Outside of Class: 2-4 hours each week that class meets ✳️ What Is This Class About? This class explores the context present in a modern understanding of fine art photography. We will explore photography's emersion and evolution as an art form. This class prepares students for understanding fine art photography and moving towards finding their own creative voice and goals. In comparison to the 101+201, this class is more focused on art theory, creative process-fueling contemplation, and is designed to build on your technical skills to spark your thinking about photography as an art form and means of communication and expression. In addition to actually taking photos, you'll be exploring the work of different photographers and reflecting on different ideas about photography as part of your weekly projects. ✳️What To Expect This class is essentially a launching pad, structure, and support system for your creative process. Each meeting will involve presentations by the instructor (Kate, me!), discussions, peer feedback, and/or activities in breakout rooms, and a project related to the topics we explore. ▪️ Each class, we will learn about a new theory, idea, technique, etc. related to the contexts that exist in artistic photography. The idea is to fuel your creative process with information, ideas, and inspiration. Check out the schedule below for an overview of the ideas covered! ▪️ Over the week between class meetings, learners will explore “sparks” for their creativity through four different approaches/elements: ✨ Resources 📓 Journal Prompt 📷 Project 📜 Artist Statement Creativity isn't a linear process, so one goal of having these different elements is to help weave photographic explorations into the whole week. Between classes, learners will browse resources, check out new photographers, maybe read some provided articles, reflect on the ideas and write down thoughts in their journals, and create a set of images that explore what they're learning and processing. They will also learn how to write an artist statement to share about their experience and thought process within the project. ▪️ The last 3 weeks of class, learners will look back on their projects, journals, and the ideas we explored, and develop a project of their own choosing (akin to the 201 final project, but utilizing a more developed creative process). ✳️ Schedule Part I Week 1: Writing with Light/Photograms + Journaling and Artists Statements Week 2: Is Photography Art? Week 3: Advanced Composition Theory - A Closer Look at Form Week 4: Photography as Story Telling - The Visual Life Week 5: Seeing in Color Week 6: Portraits and "Punctum" Week 7: Visual Communication & A Closer Look at Concept Part II Week 8: Why Photography? An Introduction to the Philosophy of Photography + Creative Voice Workshop Week 9: Personal Project Proposals Week 10: Personal Project Final Presentations

Orientación para padres
Some photographers and/or photo theorists who we learn about may have photography work or analysis that involves nudity and themes of sexuality, much like you might encounter in an exhibit at an art museum or in fashion photography. We will not explore these in class, but there is the possibility that students come upon them during further research.
