Private lessons for mandolin, banjo, or guitar, personalized just for you! Learn bluegrass, old-time, Americana, and folk playing styles while building repertoire and learning fun songs. Get started on your musical journey with a closer look at good posture, intonation, picking, and tone. In our classes, we practice strings techniques through fun songs and learning exercises. You will add to your repertoire with coaching to improve on your songs. Bring songs you are working on or suggest songs you want to learn. Not sure what to choose? Your teacher will help you with suggestions for music that's just right for your playing level and interest. Learn in a lighthearted and supportive environment. Young musicians will experience demonstrations, feedback, and encouragement. Learn from a friendly and encouraging teacher who also has an extensive performance background. his experience and patient teaching style will help you improve on your musical goals and create beautiful music. You will focus on playing technique, posture, ear training and listening, and building repertoire. You'll even learn about improvising and music theory. Private lessons are learner-driven and each week's topic and focus is set based on learner needs and interest. Get ready to meet your musical goals for success on mandolin or guitar! Skills and techniques include: 🎵 Holding the instrument and pick. 🎵 Tuning and string names. 🎵 Two finger chords. 🎵 Strumming and picking patterns. 🎵 Scales. 🎵 Individual string picking. 🎵 New songs and playing by ear. 🎵 Pentatonic and blues scales. 🎵 Improvising. Our curriculum focuses on developing a joy for music and enjoyment of the instrument. Curriculum is individualized and learner-driven. This means we work with parents and learners to select music genres and skills to keep our students interested and help meet their goals. Alani Sugar began playing the violin at age 9 and discovered bluegrass at 13, solidifying her passion for playing the violin and fiddle.
As an up-and-coming musician, Alani brings a fresh, young perspective to bluegrass and old-time music, constantly pushing the boundaries of these genres.
Alani is also a dedicated violin, fiddle, and mandolin teacher who loves working with students of all ages and skill levels. She has experience teaching private lessons, group classes, and self-paced courses. In her private lessons, she covers repertoire, technique, ear training, music reading (if desired), improvisation, and playing music with others, all tailored to each student’s interests and goals. Students often praise her for being patient, communicative, and adaptable in her teaching methods.

Talented multi-instrumentalist Levi Houston Sanders hails from Daybrook, WV. He is also a historian who specializes in the British Empire, Africa, and Napoleon. Levi has won many regional banjo competitions. He has repeated first place wins in the Maryland State Clawhammer Championships. He also took first place in the 2018 MD State three finger banjo contest. Levi also placed first in the 2016 West Virginia Open State Banjo Competition in Elkins, WV. Levi also plays and teaches rockabilly, folk, country, and rock & roll guitar.
Levi's style blends musical influences from Don Reno, Earl Scruggs, and Ralph Stanley. You'll also notice his unique Vaudeville approach to his banjo playing. This combination makes Levi's playing stand out and gives him an authentic, old-timey sound!
