⭐️ Get Ready to Chat, Play, and Laugh with this Long Running Class! ⭐️ ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜♾️ Together we : -Have conversations -Get to know new friends -Get noisy sometimes -Discuss topics that are learner-led -Discover shared interests -Develop positive ways to introduce ourselves to new people -Appreciate each other's values, abilities and beliefs ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜♾️ 💬 Our class begins with a round robin check in and continues in the direction the conversations take us. Learner-directed conversations allow for the natural flow of quiet moments and dynamic ones. Our moderators are there to facilitate conversation and model ways to engage. 🥳Come and join the fun! Group activities:🥳 Garticphone Jackbox Games Pictionary Guess the phrase/word Scenario 20 Questions and Whiteboard games We believe in celebrating neurodivergent joy! Info dumping, special interests and stimming are all a part of this group. 📌 As this is a social group that is learner led with no curriculum, videos will not be shared with families to protect learner privacy. 📌 🟢 Please message me to let me know if you have other ideas for focused or themed social clubs! 🟢 ☑️ We are ESL Friendly, CEFR Level B and C. ☑️ 🔔This group is trauma informed. That means we don't play around with potentially traumatic topics including murder and violence. All topics are welcome for discussion but trauma will not be our party theme. This includes murder mystery games. Thanks for understanding this effort to provide a safe space (in a short time) for all. 🔔

Necesidades de aprendizaje
We are a Neuroaffirming Organization! We support learners with different needs and meet them where they are at. In our social groups, we can read out the chat, we can scribe and we keep the class together and don't use breakout rooms.
Orientación para padres
This is a facilitated, not an instructional class. There is no content on "How to" make friends. This is a social space where learners are encouraged to share things that are important or interesting to them. Practice is the best learning.
We are neuroaffirming and trauma informed. We respect neurodivergent communication styles. We do not provide therapeutic support.
Learners are invited to co-create our meetings. Bring your ideas and passions to class. This group is trauma informed. That means we don't play around with potentially traumatic topics including murder and violence. All topics are welcome for discussion but trauma will not be our party theme. This includes murder mystery games. Thanks for understanding this effort to provide a safe space (in a short time) for all.
We use external websites to play games. Some learners find joining the games on a separate device easier to do than opening multiple browser windows on their computer/device.
Social classes support education through building connection, making presentations, debating the merits of a particular show/book/game and supporting each other.
Common Sense Media rates Jackbox Games as suitable for ages 13 and up, with the following grades:
* 4/5 stars for positive messages.
* 4/5 stars for ease of play.
While they note minimal concerns, such as 1/5 stars for sexual content and 1/5 for references to drinking, drugs, and smoking, it's important to mention that these elements are avoided in the family-friendly mode we'll be using for our class. When played in this mode, these games are known for providing clean family entertainment.

Carly has been running inclusive and supportive social groups for kids for over 10 years. With her Bachelor's of Child and Youth Care, with early childhood education specialization from the University of Victoria, she has years of experience coaching the anatomy of conversation and is constantly learning about humans. Carly coaches all of instructors in the methodology of this class to provide consistency.
Yvonne is a musician with a BMus from McGill University who has been leading social groups on Outschool with Carly since August 2022. Linda is a talented art instructor and has been facilitating group learning for many years. Mavi joined us in 2023 as a social group host and is developing her skills as a tutor of the Orton-Gillingham reading/writing approach. We believe in inclusive social groups were we get the chance to interact and learn more about each other.
We are cool with awkward moments and silence. Growth happens in discomfort. We leave space for connection. We do make sure everyone gets a turn to speak, keep things safe, and as much as possible, we try to stay out of the way.
This is a learner driven class. They are getting to know new people. We are curious about the subjects learners bring up in class that we don't know about, but we know enough to back off if the group is connecting over something that we've never heard of. They aren't here for another adult perspective.
We see their strengths. Every person has value to offer and we are passionate about making an open space for learners to share and connect.
We laugh at all the jokes 😉
