Process art is a developmentally-appropriate and critical opportunity for young learners to explore creativity and objects within their environments. Young children interpret literacy skills through hands-on guided learning, so this allows process art to be an excellent means for them to interpret what they are reading. We will use 4 works of Lois Ehlert (Oodles of Animals, In My World, Moon Rope, and Mole's Hill) to explore nature themes and the author/illustrator's style of art. Due to the unlimited potential of process art, this is a self-paced class to provide learners with the opportunity to maximize creative time and think critically about the mediums they would like to use for their projects. In each lesson, a story will be ready aloud and a project start will be modeled; since this is process-focused art rather than project-focused art, a finished product will not be provided. Learners truly are encouraged to create something meaningful to them and share photos or videos of their work back to the classroom.

Orientación para padres
Adults will be instrumental in assisting with the gathering of selected supplies for assignments. Some assignments may involve the use of scissors, so it is best practice for an adult to remain near the learner to ensure safety and provide any assistance if the learner is not proficient. Projects may become messy, therefore it is recommended that adults supervise learners and have cleaning materials handy. Learners may interact with small objects, so supervision is highly recommended. Household objects will be used to create some art, thus it is recommended that adults approve items and supervise for safety.
Lista de útiles escolares
White glue, paintbrushes, construction paper, scissors, tempera/poster paint, finger paint, household objects (cookie cutters, potato masher, comb/hairbrush, spoons, forks, toothbrush, etc.) and any found object type art supplies (leaves, dry pasta, dry beans, beads, buttons, pom poms, pipe cleaners, feathers, etc. - the sky is the limit!) will be needed for this unit. Learners may want their own copies of each book to follow along or to read independently, which may be found in your home or public library or purchased at family discretion.
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.

I am a certified Early Childhood and Special Education teacher with 11 years of experience working with young children. Formerly, I taught in classrooms from Pre-K to Grade 2 before moving to my current position as a Special Educator in the New Jersey Early Intervention System. I presently work with children under age 3 with developmental delays, but have continued to use my love of early childhood literature in my current role. I love reading to children and seeing their eyes light up at the magic that can be found in books! I believe that the early childhood years are critical and truly have a lifelong impact; thus, it is so important for young learners to fuel their curiosity with play-based learning!
