Get your rockets ready! We're going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship to learn about classical music and famous works of art. For extra fun we will create some of our very own art along the way! Those familiar with the TV show, Little Einsteins, are familiar with the concept of pairing a famous classical composer with another well-known artist and/or art movement. In this highly interactive flex class, learners will watch a pre-recorded "episode" that is custom recorded by me as I conduct them through activities inspired by Little Einsteins. During the course of each "episode", learners become familiar with topics such as: - Learning music terminology - Identifying musical instruments - Studying famous works of art - Geography and ancient history - Listening for rhythms and counting notes - Learning colors and color theory - Experimenting with different art mediums - Building confidence to share and collaborate with fellow classmates virtually Each "episode", or week, of class is a different lesson that follows the same format. As in the TV show, the learners are presented with a "problem" that is solved by picking up clues about the composer and artwork. The lessons are conducted using videos and activities I present in Nearpod, where I have designed a session with video clips, interactive games, 360° virtual field trips, matching games, drag & drop activities, and a fun trivia game. All slides have audio recordings to be accessible for non-readers, but younger learners may need assistance navigating the internet browser, as well as some of the crafts and activities. Each week, our own Little Einsteins will have learned about the composer and artist through the Nearpod lesson. They will then be inspired to complete their own project! In the Outschool classroom I post a separate video demonstrating their assignment for the week and encourage them to share a photo and/or video in the classroom page. Note: We will not view the full episode of the television show during the lesson due to time constraints and copyright restrictions, but I do encourage participants to view the episodes on your own if it is available in your region. I will be including clips from the show, however, and will provide additional resources for where these episodes can be viewed (for purchase and/or for free, depending on your region). It is helpful to watch the full episode either before or after completing the lesson. My art classes are always encouraging, positive and inspiring. I encourage self-expression and value all efforts. Learners are not expected to copy my projects step-by-step unless they choose to, and I love seeing young ones explore and try new things! I look forward to getting to know your Little Einstein in class!

más de 5 semanasLección 1:
Episode 1 - "O Yes, O Yes, It's Springtime!"
Ms. Astrid and the Little Einsteins need your help to save the Springtime from destruction! Music: The Four Seasons Concerto Number. 1 In E Major, Spring Allegro, RV269, 1st Movement by Antonio Vivaldi. This episode features the painting, Mountains And Rivers, by Utagawa Hiroshige. Upon watching our lesson for the week, students will paint a beautiful springtime painting of tulips, using tempera paints, a paintbrush, and a fork!
Lección 2:
Episode 2 - "A Galactic Goodnight"
Ms. Astrid follows the Little Einsteins through the Milky Way Galaxy as they identify the planets to help Quincy go to sleep. In this video, we will listen to Bagatelle In A Minor Opus 25 WoO 59 (Für Elise) by Ludwig van Beethoven, and learn about the painting, The Scream, by Edvard Munch. Our project will be to create a small paper rocket, and then learn a "swirly dance" that they can perform with their rockets. Record your dance and share it in the classroom!
Lección 3:
Episode 3 - "The Legend of the Golden Pyramid"
Together we will learn about Ancient Egypt and hieroglyphics. The Little Einsteins use the golden harp to open the golden pyramid and make the hieroglyphs pictures dance! Music: Hungarian Dance Number 5 In G Minor First Movement: Allegro Molto By Johannes Brahms. Art project: a fun (and messy!) craft making our very own "papyrus" with brown paper and glue. Then we will learn to spell our names in Egyptian hieroglyphs and paint them on our papyrus scroll.
Lección 4:
Episode 4 - "The Good Knight and the Bad Knight"
A classic tale of good vs. evil, where we must find a magic key by identifying classical instruments! Music: Peer Gynt Suite Number 1 In E Major (Morning Mood) by Edvard Grieg. There are two artworks featured in this episode: Chessboard with Flower Border by Giovanni Battista Sassi, and the Bayeux Tapestry. For our craft project, learners will learn how to weave a simple paper placemat "tapestry" that also looks like a chessboard.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am an experienced art teacher who has been teaching art classes for Pre-K to high school students both locally and online. I am a dance instructor and professional artist, as well as an unschooling mom of my own three Little Einsteins! I teach tap and body percussion, which is a form of rhythmic dance that requires critical music listening skills, and ballet, which frequently features classical music. I also teach an Outschool class on classical composers and famous ballets. I've spent many years learning a variety of musical instruments, including violin, piano and recorder. As an art teacher, I offer multiple modern art history courses on Outschool that also feature hands-on crafts and art projects.
