Elevate your literary understanding and ignite your passion for reading. Unlock hidden meanings, delve into the depths of your favorite novels, and analyze texts like never before. This comprehensive course will equip you with the skills to critically engage with literature, sharpening your analytical thinking and writing abilities. This course is the first half of this foundational course in literary analysis that will prepare students for more advanced literature courses. Studying great literature helps students develop their own vocabulary and writing skills, as well as generating the ability to defend their ideas both orally and in writing. This course is excellent preparation for students soon to be in high school, as well as young high schoolers to prepare for the discussions and writing of literature in later high school and university classes. In this class, we will cover many reading and writing skills necessary to succeed in academic literary study, while reading and discussing various genres and time periods in literature. This class is highly interactive, Socratic, and inquiry led. Students will be given various reading and writing assignments to practice and develop their critical thinking and literary analysis skills. In class videos, we will focus on introducing literary devices, clarifying terms and practicing the art of discussion regarding various genres of literature. We will practice close reading, analysis, deconstructing texts, and constructing our own arguments alongside the texts we are exploring. Students will learn how to write a proper literary analysis essay. As a self-paced version of my Literary Analysis 1 course, this course will offer no live class meetings. Instead, your student will have access to a class recording weekly to watch, as well as additional written and visual documents to augment the recording. The student will also have various quizzes and interactive assignments to check their understanding of the video content, creating a workshop feel during the 8 weeks. Also each week, students will have an opportunity to complete their own longer writing assignments related to the class content and to receive individualized teacher feedback. I will be available for office hours and meetings throughout the course by appointment to work with your schedule and your time zone. This class can be followed by my American, British, World, or Russian literature series. What to expect in this course: -Explore a wide range of literary genres and periods -Learn how to identify and interpret literary devices -Develop your critical thinking and writing skills -Gain insights into the human condition and society -Enhance your appreciation for literature From a former student, "Your literature classes really prepared me well for college but also continued developing my critical thinking skills, world view, and love of learning."
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will develop and build critical thinking skills as well as skills of reading and writing about literature.
