This twelve-week semester class will meet twice per week. It will consist of PowerPoint presentations and will plenty of time for students to interject questions or comments whenever learners like. We will have stimulating discussions and in-class activities such as Nearpod interactive lessons.
As a teacher, I do incorporate the usage of Latin roots during or course of study of biology and the life sciences. I do take time to engage with each student to learn the student’s individual personality. In my opinion, information is better retained in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. So, I strive to have a lively class.

This semester class will address various topics in life science according to the following tentative schedule:

Class# 1: Photosynthesis
This class starts with this important concept because it is essential in maintaining biological systems on our Earth. We will take an in-depth look at photosynthesis and its impact in our world.
Class #2: Taxonomy
We will learn the classification of organisms.
Class#3: Taxonomy
We will learn the hierarchy of groups according to kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species.
Class #4-Cardiac/Heart Anatomy and Physiology
We will study the normal heart anatomy and function of the heart. I will trace a drop of blood through the heart.
Class #5-Pulmonary/Lung Anatomy and Physiology
In this week, we will learn the normal anatomy and physiology of the lungs.
Class #6-Pulmonary/Lung Pathophysiology
In this week's class we will participate in an interactive Nearpod lesson and also discuss diseases associated with the lung.
Class #7-Ear
In this class, we will study the anatomy of the ear.
Class #8-Ear
In this class, we will discuss the bones of the ear
Class #9-Ear
In this class, we will learn the bones of the ear.
Class #10-Ear
In this class we will study, careers associated with the ear and vision.
Class #11-Integument System
We learn the anatomy and physiology of the integument system.
Class #12- The Skin
We will learn diseases associated with the skin.
Class #13 Kahoot game
We will participate in a fun Kahoot game that will help students review the material and learn from each other.
Class #14-Antonie van Leewenhoek
We will study the life and discoveries van Leewenhoek, a dutch scientist, is known as the father of microbiology.
Class #15- Histology
We will study microscopic structures the were first discovered with the use of the microscope. Also, we will study the microanatomy of common diseases.
Class #16- Rachel Carson
Rachel Carson is notable scientist who was influential in spotlighting the role of pollution has on our environmental waters.
Class #17- Climate Change and the Greenhouse effect
In this class, we will learn the results of climate change on our world and we will also learn the scientific definition of the Greenhouse effect.
Class #18 Great Barrier Reef
In this class, we will learn the Great Barrier reef is the largest coral reef system in the world. The survival of the Great Barrier is being threatened by pollution and climate change.
Class #19 Eye
In this class, we will study the anatomy and physiology of the eye.
Class #20-Eye

I’m a native of New Orleans. I am also a joyful homeschool mother of one and a passionate teacher of Biology, Chemistry, and Nutrition. I not only delight in teaching these subjects well but also enjoy creating a fun and stimulating environment in which to learn. Although I teach the hard sciences, I focus on making those academic classes amusing with engaging activities and by adding my sense of humor to the mix.

I enjoy debate, reading, writing well, cooking, and swimming in my spare time. I was a local Scripps-Howard spelling bee champion. I have also won numerous writing awards. I am proud to be on the board of the Catholic Homeschoolers for the Archdiocese of Galveston/Houston.

I have a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana. I have a Master’s degree in Public Health from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine with a concentration in Nutrition. I have work experience in laboratory research, medical sales, and medical/editing writing. I completed coursework in Gross Anatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, Statistics, Cardiology, Pulmonology, and Pharmacology at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. I was formerly employed by Johnson & Johnson and GlaxoSmithkline. I tutor high school biology and I have experience with AP Biology and the Biology CLEP (College Level Examination Program) exam. I like catering to each child’s interests and responding to each question. I am also an ACE Educator.

I do have a loyal following of students and I would like to share the Outschool reviews that has been written about my classes.

Here are a few:

1)This was my daughter's third class with Mrs. Brandy and it certainly won't be her last. She learned a lot about chemistry, including high school terms, in an easy to understand way and had fun while doing so. She enjoyed the camaraderie with the other students, the hands on experiments and the Kahoot. Mrs. Brandy is knowledgeable about her subjects and shares her information in a fun and engaging manner. We highly recommend Mrs. Brandy's classes.-Chemisty for Middle School

2)Mrs. Brandy is fantastic. My daughter was excited to join the classes each week, and was excited to tell me things she learned in class. I will have her take other Mrs. Brandy classes. I am a university professor, and was able to overhear some of the classes, and was really impressed - Mrs. Brandy is a real, professional teacher - a lot of respect for her teaching method and curriculum. I admired her creativity of using candy to illustrate the spine. Thank you Mrs. Brandy! - Biology for Middle School

3)You know it's a good class when your kid comes out of it feeling like an area that they previously thought was too technical and tricky would actually be a possible career choice! Excellent teaching here in the truest sense of the word. -Histology/Microanatomy
