This course will cover the Unit on Ecology. All the concepts will be discussed and explained in an engaging way so that the student is able to understand, retain the learning and continue to build on the learning. The learning will drive student inquiry throughout this course and the students will have multiple opportunities to interact with me throughout this course.

Since I share videos in class that require permission and subscription, I am able to play them in class but not able to share them online. I therefore do not share the class recording. Thanks.:)

I will be sharing a "Review Note sheet" on the topic discussed in class so that the student may review all that was learned during class.

First 2 minutes - Introduction of the teacher and students and introduction of the topic to be discussed.
Next 40 minutes the teacher will share a Google Slides presentation to learn and explore the concepts with examples. After a few slides each time there will be short video clips from credible educational sources that will help learners to reinforce the concepts learned.
Students are welcome to discuss and ask questions to make the class more interactive. Learners may use graphics/flowchart/concept maps for noting these concepts.
Last 3 minutes students will share their learning with the class, review the topic, discuss and may ask relevant and essential questions.

Lección 1:
Food Chains and Food Webs
Organisms depend on each other for nourishment to survive, and this joins them together in something called a food chain. The food chain describes how organisms in an ecosystem are linked together by what they eat.
Are plants always at the bottom of the food chain?
What would happen if one set of organism disappears from the food chain?

Food chains often combine to form complex food webs, containing many interconnected and overlapping chains.

Lección 2:
Energy Pyramids
 What is an energy pyramid?
The energy pyramid is a model for how energy spreads through an ecosystem.
How are the animals linked together in an ecosystem?
Where is most of the energy used up by an individual?
Why is the energy transfer in a food chain represented as a pyramid?
How much does the energy decrease as we move up in an energy pyramid?
Does the biomass remain the same in a food chain?

Lección 3:
Ecosystems
 What is an ecosystem?
Ecosystem: A group of living things interacting with each other and their environment.
Resources like space and water are limited. Ecosystems force species to make the most of what’s available. Their success depends on how effectively they can use the living and nonliving things in their habitat. This activity defines the species’ role, or niche.

What happens in an ecosystem when the resources become limited?
What happens to an ecosystem when humans use more resources?

Lección 4:
Symbiotic Relationships
What is a symbiotic relationship in an ecosystem?
A symbiotic relationship, or symbiosis, occurs when two species live in close contact with one another.

What are the different types of symbiosis in an ecosystem?
There are three main categories of symbiosis: distinguished by whether the relationship is harmful or helpful to one or both of the species.

I am offering this class because I am passionate about science and the natural world.
I am always excited to observe things and try to find out why things work in nature the way they do. I am also excited about solving problems. I love to build prototypes to test my hypothesis and to try to find solution to a problem.

I have been in the field of education teaching science and technology for the last 37 years and have worked with all age groups of students. I have worked with students with different learning needs and differentiated my instruction based on their needs. I have also worked with Early English language learners and modified my pedagogy and methodology to suit individual needs.
