Friendship is Magic as we learn together how to be Pony Power Readers. This is the second class of our series (level 2). Below I have a list of Each week our class will read-a-loud from a Level One Beginner My Little Pony Reader (listed below). Students may purchase each book and follow along using our pointing and visualizing techniques. Each book has a word bank that we will put in our Pony Power Journals along with their definitions. Students will then create and share sentences using our word bank. Every class includes one Do It Yourself Project. Materials List can be found below, but it is my hope that most people have many of these items around the house already. Students are welcome to dress up in Superhero or Pony Gear. Day One: "Meet the Squad" Starlight Glimmer has the very best friends in all of Ponyville! Come meet Princess Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack, and more in this charming, leveled reader based on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! As a class we will read our book together, find our power words, put our new words in our journal and draw each word. Finally, our craft will be to decorate our journals and create pictures of our favorite ponies while getting to know each other. Day Two: "The Gift of Maud Pie" In this charming story about two sisters, we learn what self-sacrifice is and what it means to be family. We begin this class and all future classes with our review from last class and then share our homework sentences. In the tradition of pie, we will be using playdoh or clay to make pies together and then we will go over fractions as a class. After our fractions, students can let their pie dry to decorate. Students will need something to roll out their clay and make circles. Day Three: "Holly, Jolly Harmony" It's Hearth's Warming Eve in Ponyville, and the ponies put on a special pageant to celebrate the story of the founding of Equestria: a winter tale about how the three tribes of ponies learned to live together in harmony. We will follow our normal class format as stated above and then put on a royal pony play after making our pony masks. Students will need to print out the mask template on stock paper and can use ribbon to tie their masks on. Teacher will provide our scripts :) Day Four: "Rainbow Road Trip" The Mane Six can't wait for the Rainbow Festival in Hope Hollow! But when Twilight Sparkle and her friends arrive, they find the town and all its residents completely devoid of color. In an instant, their dream vacation starts to feel more like a nightmare! The Mane Six will have to solve the mystery behind this washed-out world if they hope to bring the "rainbow" back to the Rainbow Festival and color back to the lives of their new friends. Our craft section this week is to create a colorful post card of somewhere we would love to travel and to create a colorful pony of our very own. It can be a royal pony like the ones in the book, or something special to your little one, my son made a dinosaur pony once :) Students have a choice, they can purchase a blank pony like this one for $11 (not available right now), or they can sculpt a pony out of clay. I use Crayola sculpting clay and let it dry, then paint. Our last book is about dragons but not about My Little Ponies. Unfortunately, My Little Ponies do not have level 3 books out yet, so we will do the second-best thing, read about dragons like Spike! This class is to see how far we have come as readers and to move up to our next level. When moving up we must have a party...that is what the ponies would do. For this class our craft will be dragon snacks. We will make Peanut Butter (or cream cheese) celery dragons and a dragon snack mix (Bugles for dragons claws and whatever else you want to add). Ingredient list in the materials. This Class is a Level TWO Reading Together Class For further understanding of our class levels please read the following: Level One: READING TOGETHER Read short words in simple sentence structures together to begin a reader’s journey. Classes Offered: Pony Power Readers Level Two: READING OUT LOUD Encourage developing readers to sound out words in more complex stories with simple vocabulary. Level Three: READING INDEPENDENTLY Newly independent readers gain confidence reading more complex sentences with higher word counts. Level Four: READY TO READ MORE Readers prepare for chapter books with fewer illustrations and longer paragraphs

For twenty years I have had the opportunity to work with students from Pre-K through Graduate School in both a traditional learning atmosphere and those classes that deviate from neurotypical teaching. I am a retired certified teacher, attorney and mother of seven. Every class I create is first implemented in my own household. My teaching philosophy is that all students are individuals and unique learners that must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and where mistakes are considered education victories.
While incorporating the eight learning styles into each class, I believe that there are five essential elements that are conducive to learning. (1) The teacher's role is to act as a guide. (2) Students must have access to hands-on activities. (3) Students should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning. (4) Students need the opportunity to practice skills in a safe environment. (5) Technology must be incorporated into the school day.
Please note I am not affiliated nor do I work with or for Hasbro.
