What: How to map out ideas using a visual format aka SKETCHNOTING for the intermediate sketchnoter. This class is geared towards budding artists or students who have already tried sketchnoting. -What topics: Class will open with several DOODLE CHALLENGES to warm up our minds. We will then discuss how sketchnoting utilizes a multi-sensory method to activate "sticky learning" . We will talk about how Sketchnoting helps us map out processes using the Ted Talk, Tom Wujec: "How You Make Toast" found here (played through teacher computer--no need for students to access: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vS_b7cJn2A ) then students will participate in a live note taking activity. Using the podcast "Malcolm Gladwell on Running, Writing, and Storytelling" (found free here: https://dailystoic.com/malcolm-gladwell/ ). This podcast will be played through the computer by the teacher and the class will listen and draw it together. The podcast addresses ELA standards, and teacher will model how to draw, organize, and use sketchnoting technique which has been shown to be very beneficial for ADD/ ADHD/ and other neuro-divergent rockstars. Afterwards, students will create a goal sheet and motivational map. Final parts of class will work on DOODLE CHALLENGES and FONT FIGHTS (students share out how different lettering can be interpreted differently--no actual violence! hahaha!). -Need: Paper/ pencil OR digital drawing app. -Need: camera that students can use to share sketchnotes -Class structure with a brief warmup activity, sketchnote-modelling, students will then "do" their own sketch notes -Brief discussion following sketchnoting activity -some drawing experience expected

cite the textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to the sketch-noter and how to draw an objective summary of the text
