Spelling can be tricky for many students due to the variety of rules—and exceptions—but it doesn’t have to be frustrating! In this small group class, learners will build essential spelling skills through interactive lessons, group collaboration, and fun activities. With a maximum of 6 students per class, each child receives meaningful support while benefiting from peer interaction and shared learning experiences. PLEASE NOTE: The levels associated with the ALL ABOUT SPELLING program do NOT pertain to grade levels. This is a mastery-based program, meaning the students progress through the various levels as they master the skills and concepts taught at each level. Most students begin this program with Level 1 regardless of their age or grade, in order to build a strong phonics-based foundation. This class is perfect for learners who need extra support in phonics, spelling patterns, and/or word study, as well as those who simply want to strengthen their knowledge of all things spelling. The small group format promotes confidence, community, and consistency. Whether your child is catching up, keeping up, or looking to get ahead, they’ll feel supported and inspired! 🖍️REVIEW-We’ll begin each class with an engaging review of the previous week’s spelling skill and practice words. I’ll also check in on earlier rules and concepts to help students make lasting connections and reinforce prior learning. This approach emphasizes understanding over memorization, encouraging students to truly master spelling concepts. 🖍️NEW SKILL-Each session features either a new spelling concept/rule or a focused review to strengthen understanding. Lessons are delivered using colorful, interactive, teacher-created Google Slides that are fun, age-appropriate, and designed to keep students engaged. Topics might include vowel teams, blends, digraphs, syllable types, tricky rules, prefixes, suffixes, and more. 🖍️STUDENT PARTICIPATION-Students actively participate in every lesson—whether that be breaking words into syllables, identifying patterns, finding exceptions to rules, applying skills in creative ways, practicing sounds together, or one of many other engaging activities. This program’s approach supports a variety of learning styles and helps boost spelling confidence. 🖍️SPELLING GAMES-Each session ends with a fun spelling game, giving students a chance to practice and apply what they’ve learned in a relaxed and encouraging way. These games are a class favorite and are extremely helpful with reinforcing skills. Over time, students will explore a wide range of spelling topics, including: ⭐Phonics-based spelling rules (vowels, consonants, blends, digraphs, and phonograms) ⭐Syllable types and spelling patterns ⭐High-frequency words and common exceptions ⭐Prefixes, suffixes, and root words ⭐Tricky spelling rules like silent letters, doubled consonants, and more The All About Spelling program is based on the Orton-Gillingham method, a multi-sensory, structured approach to spelling. Whether your child is starting at Level 1 or advancing through higher levels, this method helps students develop a strong foundation in spelling by understanding the WHY behind spelling rules, rather than just memorizing word lists. All About Spelling is especially effective for struggling spellers and students with learning differences, such as dyslexia. Certain elements of this program, including phonics-based spelling practice, word pattern recognition, and consistent skill reinforcement, provide children with the tools and strategies they need to become confident and successful spellers. Mistakes are welcomed and encouraged—they’re part of the learning process!! Students will always find a positive, supportive environment where they can feel comfortable taking risks, overcoming challenges, and celebrating successes—big or small! If you don’t see a time that fits your schedule, feel free to send me a message—I’ll do my best to accommodate. NOTE: There are NO CLASSES on MONDAY, SEPT. 1 in observance of LABOR DAY. Consistent practice at home is key to helping your child master the spelling skills introduced in class. Since this program follows a step-by-step approach, each new concept builds upon the last. A strong foundation is essential for success, so reinforcing these skills through extra practice at home will greatly benefit your child’s progress and confidence.
