Watercolor can be a very intimidating medium for those who are inexperienced or have simply had bad teachers. When it comes to landscapes it can be especially scary if you have to add small details like flowers, or if you want to add something like big, fluffy clouds. In this class students will follow along with me each week as we learn how to break down a landscape into simple steps. This class will help students become comfortable using a paintbrush as well as using watercolor paints. This class is great for beginners as well as more experienced watercolorists as we will cover basic, foundational watercolor techniques such as such as wet on wet, wet on dry, and dry on dry as well as more advanced applications of these techniques. Students will learn not only how to paint with watercolor, but also why we may use one technique or a certain color over another. They will also learn how to create different effects with paint splatter. By the end of class each student should have a fully finished piece.* Week of May 1: The Lighthouse Week of May 8: Sunrise Over a River Week of May 15: A Misty Sunrise Week of May 22: Mountain Peak Week of May 29: Lake Sunset Week of June 5: A Field of Wildflowers Week of June 12: Poppy Field Week of June 19: Floral Peninsula Week of June 26: Misty Mountain Sunrise Week of July 3: Pastel Sunset Week of July 10: Cloudy Sunrise Week of July 17: Sun Rays On the Mountainside Week of July 24: Ripples On the Water Week of July 31: The Waterfall Week of August 7: Sunrise Through the Trees Week of August 14: Logs On the Water Week of August 21: The Lavender Field Week of August 28: Tree Reflections Week of September 4 : River In the Mountains Week of September 11: Colors of Autumn Week of September 18: Fall On the Mountain Week of September 25: Fall Lake Week of October 2: Forest Path Week of October 9: Misty Morning Week of October 16: Spooky Woods Week of October 23: The First Frost Week of October 30: Snow-Covered Mountains Week of November 6: Snow-Laden Trees Week of November 13: The Icy Lake Week of November 20: Elk In the Forest Week of November 27: Frozen Stream Week of December 4: Frozen Lake Week of December 5: Snowy Road Week of December 6: Cabin in the Mountains Week of December 13: The Snowy Path Week of December 20: House After a Snowstorm Week of Week of January 1: Landscape in a Frozen Water Droplet Week of January 8: The First Blossoms Week of January 15: Flowering Trees Week of January 22: Cabin Amidst a Field of Flowers Week of January 29: Flowers of the Forest Week of February 5: Overgrown Ruins Week of February 12: The Weeping Willow Week of February 19: Sunset Over Mountain Fields Week of February 26: Fields of Rapeseed Week of March 4: Orange Poppy Field Week of March 11: Overgrown Lake Week of March 18: Misty Wetlands Week of March 25: Forest in Africa Week of April 1: Sunset Over the Fields Week of April 8: Farmland in the Mountains Week of April 15: Lake Reflections Week of April 22: Misty Sunrise over Mountains Week of April 29: The Gateway Week of May 6: The Waterfall Week of May 13: The Calm Before the Storm Week of May 20: The Garden Path Classes will loop when complete, however, I’m always open to take requests. *Everyone paints at their own pace, so I will remain 15 minutes after each class to help any students that fall behind. I will be using Arches 100% cotton, 140lb cold pressed watercolor paper. While you don’t need this specific brand I would recommend using paper that has the same qualities since cheap or non watercolor paper can cause problems and lead to frustration. Strathmore is a fairly decent alternative brand that costs $12 for a 9x12 pad at Hobby Lobby. (Cheaper if you use a coupon.)

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi, I’m Annika and I love all things arts and crafts related. I teach watercolor and acrylic classes. In both of these I will teach your children different ways to hold a paintbrush in order to achieve various effects. We will also learn different ways of shading and blending as well as how to use a reference photo to achieve the desired affect.
I have had multiple art teachers over the years who have all come from different countries and backgrounds. Each one has taught me something different that has helped me become a better artist, and I look forward to sharing what they have taught me with the next generation of artists.
I believe art should be fun and exciting and with as few boundaries as possible. This means using materials considered “unconventional,” such as glitter, rhinestones, sequins, and anything else that inspires you. When it comes to art there is no limit to what you can accomplish.
