A class for all video game and music lovers! This class is open to individuals of all skill levels, even those without any prior music experience. Students will gain a solid foundation in music theory and have the chance to create and share their own original video game music compositions using artwork and gameplay footage from popular franchises like Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, and more.

This class uses a free music notation software called MuseScore. We will explore different instruments and sounds commonly used in video game music and understand how they work to create immersive and fitting musical experiences in games. Students will explore different musical genres and styles found in video games and various compositional techniques that are commonly employed in video game music.

The class is an ongoing weekly course that allows students to join at any time. Games can be revisited or cycled in and out of the schedule based on student interest. 

Students must download and install MuseScore on a computer prior to class. The mobile app is completely different and is not free to use. The most recent version is MuseScore 4 which comes as part of the Muse Hub package. Ideally students have Musescore installed on the same device used for the zoom meeting.
