In this engaging 55-minute session, we'll explore the art of poetry through hands-on generative exercises, where participants will create their own poems inspired by works by contemporary poets. We'll delve into the structure of poetry, focusing on how to craft meaningful and evocative pieces. The class is structured around interactive activities, starting with reading and practicing critical response. My teaching style is process-oriented, emphasizing creativity and personal expression over perfection. We'll use Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process (CRP) for constructive feedback, ensuring each participant's work is respected while fostering a supportive critique environment. Interaction will be high, with activities including: - Discussion: Sharing ideas and insights about poetry. - Writing Exercises: Participants will write their own poems in real-time. - Group Critique: Using CRP to provide feedback, ensuring everyone gets to interact with both me and their peers. - Video Clips: Short clips to inspire and illustrate poetic techniques. No prior poetry experience is required, making this workshop suitable for all levels. This session promises a fun, educational dive into poetry, encouraging a community of creative expression.
