¡Hagamos arte e inspiremos nuestra escritura creativa!

This class is on going, it is a weekly drop in course. Each lesson stands alone and is not progressive. Enrollment can start or stop at any time.

Students will be provided with a new inspirational topic each week, this will be introduced via a google slideshow containing photographs, illustrations, vocabulary lists and questions to ponder. Students are asked to make sketches of their creative ideas for around 25 minutes, then use this to inspire a short creative writing assignment also approximately 25 minutes.

Students are highly encouraged to ask questions and to share both their art piece and their creative writing with the class. I aim to promote a positive atmosphere using words of praise and gentle constructive criticism to motivate both reluctant and willing writers.

The art portion of the class will mostly be two dimensional drawings using pencil and colored with markers, pencils, pastels, water color or any medium the artist chooses. I will share my sketches each class but always encourage individual ideas and exploration.

Please note this is not a guided drawing class, it is more exploration and personal creation.

I will provide ideas and writing focus points for each new topic. In every class, optional ‘sentence starters’ are provided to help kick off the creative writing process. We will discuss using our senses to add detail to descriptions and methods to edit and improve our work. Students will be introduced to new vocabulary and encouraged to use it within their imaginative writing.

I recommend using a dedicated book to record both the art and writing produced each class but this is not essential. Students are welcome to type their work and use digital drawing if they prefer.

Students may wish to continue with both projects after class and are always welcome to send me their finished work via the Outschool classroom.

No classes on November 23rd for Thanksgiving and December 25th on Christmas Day.

Lista de útiles escolares
Students are encouraged to have the following items available for each class.

All you require is something to draw on and something to write and draw with.

Colors can be used in whatever medium your child prefers (markers, pencils or paints).

I record all my work in a sketchbook keeping my writing and drawing all together however this is not mandatory.

Students may prefer lined paper to write on. This can be kept in a separate book or glued into the sketchbook next to the art work.

Hello! My name is Katie Chad and I live in Texas. I received my Bachelor in Education with an Art and Design specialism and Qualified Teacher Status from Plymouth University in England. I have taught elementary education in Europe, The Middle East and North America.

My passion is creativity! Can I find a creative way to teach math? Is there a way I can spark excitement with poetry? Can we write a nail biting opening for a story? I love to explore new ideas and new techniques.

I love sculpture, whether I am using clay, fabric, paints, paper or recycled materials. I believe that art is a form of self discovery and exploration that is accessible to everyone whatever their experience.

My aim is to provide my students with techniques and ideas as a starting point for their own artistic discoveries. To provide encouragement and enthusiasm and the knowledge that there is no wrong answer, even happy accidents can result in fantastic creations!

Truth be told, I wish I’d been educated at Hogwarts. I have loved reading the books with my own children. We have thrown several elaborate Harry Potter parties at our house. I have been known to dress up as several of the characters including Professor McGonagall, Trelawney, Dobby and even Hagrid! We’ve made Marauder’s maps, wands, tiny potion jewelry and our own Mandrakes.

I am so excited to meet and create with your students on Outschool.
