As the son of a man who worked directly on the construction of the Lunar Module, the space program still holds excitement and amazement to me, and I plan to bring that excitement to your children. This course will be sectioned into six specific sections as follows : Day 1 - Introduction - Sputnik, Soviet early rocket design, the first man in space, early American rocket design, The start of the Mercury Program, Alan Shepard Day 2 - Mercury Continued - Focus on Virgil Grissom and John Glenn Day 3 - The Gemini Program, Ed White Space Walk, Agena Program, Rendevous Day 4 - The start of the Apollo Program. Saturn 1b and Saturn 5, Focus on the Apollo 1 fire, Lunar Module Design, Apollo 8, prep for Apollo 11 Day 5 - Apollo 11 Day 6 - Apollo 12, 13, and the final moonshots. The class will be taught with a mixture of PowerPoint, Models, and video. Interaction is key, so students will have ample opportunities for questions and conversation. No specific prior knowledge is required, students should only bring their curiosity of the space program.
Metas de aprendizaje

I am a Science Teacher with 24 years of experience in public schools. I have degrees in Marine Science, Natural Science, and Earth Science Education. Science is a passion that I have had since I was a boy. Learning Science should be fun,.... because SCIENCE is FUN ! I teach anything related to my degrees, such as Astronomy, Space Science, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Rocks and Minerals, Weather, Plate Tectonics, etc. with added courses on methods of data presentation such as Excel and PowerPoint. I have also taught Advanced Research Methods such as DNA Extraction, PCR, and Gel Electrophoresis. I am a huge nerd with Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Image, and D.C. Comics, and Science Fiction being my hobbies, along with reading, hiking, fishing, drawing, and model building. Having tagged sharks for 33 years, I am something of a "Shark Nerd" as well. I have taught science to students in grades 5 - 12, ran science fairs for elementary, middle, and high school students, and taught them presentation skills. I am very happy to be joining Outschool and look forward to working with students sharing the wonders of science !!!
