This class is designed specifically to introduce your little learner to the magical world of letters, sounds, and language. The engaging, play-based activities will help build early literacy skills, such as phonological awareness, letter names, and letter sounds while stories and nonfiction texts will give learners exposure to rich vocabulary.

What Your Child Will Learn:
1.	Phonological Awareness: Being aware of the sounds we make when we talk is an essential component to learning to read written English. We will practice with plenty of fun activities that help learners recognize alliterations, rhymes, and more.
2.	Letter Names: We’ll meet all the letters of the alphabet, getting to know their names and shapes through songs, stories and games.
3.	Letter Sounds: Children will discover the sounds associated with each letter, an important step in phonics.
4.	Letter Formation: We’ll explore how to form letters in playful ways, such as finger tracing and playing with playdough (if allergic, please provide an alternative to playdough if you are able).
5.	Vocabulary: Through stories, nonfictional text, songs, and poems, your child will be exposed to new words in each class. A rich vocabulary is essential to reading success!

Fun and Interactive Activities:
My teaching style is relaxed, fun and interactive. I strive to fill each class with a variety of activities that teach, build skills, and make children feel welcomed and valued. I use discussion, video clips, games, slides and props to keep learners focussed and engaged. Here are some activities you can expect in our weekly classes:

1.	Songs & Poems: Catchy tunes and silly poems help to reinforce letter sounds, help build phonological awareness, and foster listening skills.
2.	Storytime: We’ll listen to original stories that build important literacy skills, like recognizing characters, setting, and plot as well as the beginning, middle, and end of a story.
3.	Crafts: Crafts that require tearing or cutting paper, gluing, and drawing help to build fine motor control and strength that can support writing. We’ll use simple materials like paper plates, toilet paper tubes, construction paper, paint, glue, and scissors. Check the classroom weekly for necessary materials. Reminder: children should always be supervised when using scissors.
4.	Nonfiction Exploration: We’ll explore real-world connections as we learn our letters. For example, when we learn about the letter B, we’ll read about butterflies. This will help children to build knowledge and expand their vocabulary and help them understand what they read in the future.
5.	Playdough Letter Play: We’ll squish, mold, and shape playdough into letters. It’s a tactile way to reinforce learning while having sensory fun and strengthening little fingers.
