Dibujemos insectos, reptiles y animales

In this ongoing class we will draw a different subject each week. We will draw a variety of wildlife including vertebrates and invertebrates. Every four weeks, we will rotate through a drawing of a new reptile/amphibian, insect/invertebrate, small mammal, and large mammal.

At the beginning of each class we will welcome any new students and give them a brief explanation of our process and then we will begin a guided drawing. We will use the concept of using basic shapes to block in a quick underdrawing or "map" of our wildlife subject, and then we will go back to use various techniques of mark making and shading to make our subject come to life and look more realistic. I lead with the shading and details in pencil, but many students choose to add color with a medium of their choice.
After a few weeks, some of my students become so confident in their drawings that it is self-paced.
This is not an instructed drawing class as much as it is a drawing practice and guided drawing. I recommend new students to join us for more than one week to get the most out of the class. It is a process that students learn and improve as they complete the drawing each week.

As we begin to draw, we can also have discussions about the wildlife we are drawing. Students are free to ask questions about the drawing and share their drawing progress.

This is a great class for students who want to improve their drawings through guided practice, and students who want to improve their ability to draw animals, insects and reptiles/amphibians from life (field sketching.) The quick studies we do in this class, using the method of quickly blocking in basic shapes before moving on to filling in detail are great for nature journaling, drawing from your yard, as well as improving the basic skill of drawing.

Here are the subjects we will learn to draw

Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their drawing skills by practicing on a new subject each week. By repeatedly using the method of starting with basic shapes, then using various techniques to add texture and detail, students will begin to be able to replicate it with their own drawings. This is a great practice for students who want to be able to draw from life, such as in a nature journal.

Hello! My name is Jessalyn Claire and I am so thankful for Outschool.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a lifelong artist and more recently, the author and illustrator of an award winning children's book called Little Birder. It is a non-fiction alphabet book about birds.
I am inspired by the curiosity that comes naturally to children which I have to work diligently to cultivate as an adult. I wanted to create a beautiful resource that encourages children to be curious and observe the world around them. (Ask for information.)

The best thing about being an artist is that art can go hand in hand with just about any topic. Many of my classes will involve nature and observation. Character building skills like curiosity, observation, expressing emotions through art are just some of the skills that are incorporated into my art lessons.

I also like to help kids who are ready to begin mastering art and observation skills gain confidence in themselves through teaching methods that improve the results of their art.
I help kids realize anyone can be an artist and help improve their skills with a few “tricks.” Tricks like anatomy and proportions, seeing negative space, and recognizing underlying shapes. I love watching as kids improve drastically in just one lesson, and gain the confidence in their skill that will become the foundations of their creativity through art.
My art classes are fun, but they're best for students who are passionate about improving their art skills.
