Grado de EE. UU. 5 - 9
In this course, learners will get a hands-on view of some of the things that librarians do on a day-to-day basis, including shelving and organizing library materials, reading new materials, coming up with ideas for programs, searching in a library catalog, and purchasing new library materials. A recommended weekly schedule is as follows: Mondays- The instructor will make a discussion board with the general themes of the week. There will be a short lecture to allow for key concepts to be introduced, which will later be used by the learners. Tuesdays- Learners will put into practice what they have learned with a hands-on exercise. They will have Tuesday and Wednesday to work on the weekly assignment and report results on Thursdays. Fridays- Learners will either (a) write a short reflection on what they learned for the week, or (b) share a screenshot or small report on what they did for the week's assignment. These assignments will not be graded, but will be a good tool to show growth and understanding of concepts. There will be a few days between each component so learners can work at their own pace as well as move as a class through the various lessons. The themes for the weeks will be as follows: Week 1: Helping library patrons (how to use a library catalog, reserve a library card, and use library apps) Week 2: Organizing the library (How to organize using library sections, the Dewey Decimal system, and displays) Week 3: Creating a program (How to plan a program for a specific audience) Week 4: Responsibility with Money (How to buy new library materials meant for a specific audience)

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello everyone! My name is Abbie! I finished my master's degree in library science from Drexel University in September 2023; I also hold a BA in English and journalism from the University of Delaware; some of my favorite coursework outside of my major were classes in other forms of writing, literature, art history, performing arts, and social sciences. When I am not in class, you can find me reading anything I can get my hands on and watching LOTS of Netflix. I look forward to talking to you all more!
