Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. Kindergarten - 3
In this FLEX class students will have the opportunity to learn how to listen for, read, and spell words with different ending sounds. I will post a short video introducing each skill Monday-Thursday, and on Friday students will create a Flipgrid and teach the skills that they learned back to me. Each day after your child watches my mini lesson they will be provided with a hands on phonics worksheet or activity that lines up with the skill that was taught that day. They will be encouraged go on a word scavenger hunt and look for the sound that was taught within a book from home.

This class is taught using a "I do, you do, we do" format and is influenced by the Orton Gillingham approach. Students will be taught a variety of skills including tapping out words, coding sounds, and finding heart sounds within words.

Pacing Guide
Week 1 (Control R "or" & "ar" for example "horn" & "car")
Week 2 (Control R "ir", er, & ur for example "bird", "her", "burn")
Week 3 (The spelling -ge vs -dge for example "huge" vs "fudge" Soft c & Soft g)
Week 4 (The Double/ Single consonant rule)

Weekly Structure

Monday- Thursday
Step 1: Students will watch a short video of the new skill being introduced.

Step 2: Students will now practice the skill that was taught in the video by completing a hands on game, scavenger hunt, or worksheet.

Step 3: Students will use a book from home and find the phonics skill that was taught. For example if the sound that was taught that day was the bossy r sound "ir" like in the word "bird", students would look in a book for that spelling pattern.

Step 4: Students will take a picture or video of their activity and book used for their spelling pattern and will post it in the classroom. They will encourage two other students that also completed their work. I will check in on their work daily and give them feedback on their progress.

Friday
Students will create a video through Flipgrid and "teach me" what they learned that week. This is a time for the students to flip roles with the teacher and create their own mini lesson video. I LOVE to see how students grow and build their spelling confidence through this activity. I encourage them to be CREATIVE and think outside the box with this activity. Once they know they get to verbally teach the concept back to the teacher, they are much more likely to focus and retain the skills that are being taught throughout the week.

We will use Flipgrid in this FLEX class. Flipgrid is a website and app that allows teachers to facilitate video discussions. Students are organized into groups and then given access to discussion topics. When we use Flipgrid I will post a code in the classroom. Once you click on the link it will take you to Flipgrid where your child can create and add cool effects to their video. We may use scissors in an assignment. Please review scissor safety with your child before starting the activity. Your child is invited to use shaving cream as a hands on tool to practice writing their spelling words. Please be cautious while using shaving cream if your child has sensitive skin.
