Welcome to the Mythical World of Percy Jackson and his adventures seen through the book “The  Lightning Thief.” In this exciting 8 week class students will dive into the world of Greek Mythology through the lens of  “Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief's” book. 
 By the end of the class students will have a deeper understanding of Greek Mythology. 
Students must obtain a copy of the book for  class which also will be handy as a homework tool. 

Week 1:Introduction to Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief 
Discussion: What is Greek Mythology?Where did it come from? Why is it relevant. 
Outside class work: Read chapters 1-3

Week 2: A discussion of the chapters read at home and impressions of the story so far. Is Percy a human or a demigod.
Activity: Create a family tree of the Olympian gods. A handout will be provided.
Outside class work: Read chapters 4-6

Week 3-:Discussion: How is Percy like a modern hero?
Activity: Compare Percy Jackson to a traditional Greek hero. 
Outside class work:Read chapters 7-9 of their book.

Week 4: Mythological characters and classic monsters
Activity: Draw and design your own mythical character or characters.
Outside class work::Read chapters 10-12 of their book.

Week 5:Hades and his underworld 
Discussion: Greek gods in the story live in totally different worlds. How has this been shown? 
Activity: Write a short story about a character’s journey through one of these worlds.
Outside class work: Read chapters 13-15

Week 6:Percy’s exhaustive journey, retracing his steps with Grover and Anabeth.
Activity:  Plot Percy and his companions journey so far.
Outside class work: Read chapters 16-18

Week 7:Book discussion: Theme, characters ,and plot of The Lightning Thief.
Activity:Group presentations on different aspects of the story.
Outside class work: Finish the book chapters 19-22.

Week 8:Students will present something that stood out to them from the book. 
This can be a presentation, a creative writing piece, a piece of art, or any other form of expression.

Lección 1:
Intro to Greek Mythology
 Introducing students to Greek Mythology and where it came from and what it is all about. Students will be introduced to the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Who is Percy and an overview of his story. There will also be an  introduction to some of the Greek gods and goddesses from the story. Students will be assigned chapters 1-3 to read outside of class.

Lección 2:
Humans vs. Demigods
 We will begin by discussing the first three chapters assigned for outside reading. Is Percy human or is he a son of a Greek god? Why in Greek mythology there are greek gods and what important roles did they play. We will discuss Percy’s trials so far and do a family tree worksheet on the Olympian gods. Read chapters 4-6 outside of class.

Lección 3:
Heroes vs, Villains
 This lesson will begin by using the knowledge students have gained from chapters 4-6. Are there any heroes in the story yet? We will look at some of the Greek heroes such as Achilles', Hercules, and Perseus. What their missions were.
The Greeks also included villains and some were even part of the main gods family.
Read chapters 7-9

Lección 4:
Mythical Monsters and Characters
 Discussion of chapters 7-9 then students will get a chance to design their own monster and characters and create a small text about how they could fit into what we have read so far. 
Read chapters 10-12 outside of class.
