Does your learner want to begin their musical journey? A good first step is learning to read notes. This class is for beginners wanted to learn to read the notes on a staff to help them with their singing, playing their instrument, and the study of music. This class is very welcome to students who have started learning instruments or take an interest in playing instruments. In a sense, learning to read notes is like learning a new language, and to gain fluency, practice is different exercises are very helpful. In this class I will teach students all of the fundamentals of reading notes, and have games and challenges so that they can work on quick recall of the notes. I always like to move around different methods of learning one thing because it helps to practice something in different ways, and it will appeal to all different types of learners. Specifcally speaking, we will learn about the grand staff, the clefs, time signatures, where all the notes are, rhythm, key signatures, patterns, and intervals. I create lots of visuals in my lessons to help students learn to make sure the lesson is fun as well as informative. I will also bring up musical examples so we can see music in context. I want to move at the pace of the students so I choose to make this class ongoing instead of a more structured class. Within a few weeks students should be able to identify all the notes on the staff, and weekly practices will help them increase their speed at recognition - just like with reading - the word "the" is the word "the", and the F is on the bottom space of the treble staff. Everyone is welcome! (outline of first four classes) Week One: The staff, clefs, simple time signatures, basic rhythm, C, E. Week Two: more rhythm, time signature practice, C, D, E, G Week Three: More Rhythm Practice; C, D, E, F, G; major/minor, intervals Week Four: C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C; continual practice in rhythm, major/minor, intervals Week Five: C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C; Bass clef practice; continue practice in rhythm, major/minor, intervals Week Six: Continual practice in all areas Week seven and beyond: JOURNEY BEGINS! Journey through the forest, save a unicorn, go aboard a ship, visit Hogwarts, and more!

Ready to learn to write some music? All of us have music inside, and I will teach you how to let it out! Let's learn to read notes, write for different instruments, identify different musical styles, learn software (Sibelius, Logic Pro, Garage Band), and enjoy creating!
I've always been a musician and decided to further my education at Azusa Pacific Univeristy in Southern California and the University of Bristol in the U.K. I learned so many great musical skills from wonderful teachers, and I can't wait to share the knowledge to young learners.
Music is a vast world and I believe in taking all of the elements and combining them together. The magic in it is that all of the elements are both challenging and fun! The rewards in growing your musical skills show up in such gratifying ways, and all of us, no matter the age or skill level, are on the journey together.
A bit about me: I love traveling! I'm a big reader (my favorite books are by Jane Austen and the Harry Potter and Confessions of a Shopaholic series). I enjoy going on walks and spending time with my family.
I'm Tori! A composer from California.
- I worked for my BM in composition from Azusa Pacific University and learned many, many musical skills!
- At Azusa Pacific I wrote my first opera
- I worked for my masters across the pond at the University of Bristol in England (and wrote my second opera)
- Went on to London, a city I loved, and enjoyed that city and other European cities
- Always worked with kids as my mom was a preschool teacher (we even ran a preschool from home for a bit!)
- Currently I freelance as a composer and write all differnet styles - pop to classical!
- I love animals, watching movies, reading, singing, piano, and travelling.
- My approach to learning is to make it attainable, easy to remember, fun, and really communicating the value of the information because otherwise, what is the point of learning a certain topic?
