In this one-time class, learners will be introduced to the game "Warhammer: Kill Team". This is a shorter and easier to learn version of the classic Warhammer 40K game. Many people prefer this game to the original because it is easier to learn, the rules are more manageable and the game length is shorter (around 1-1.5hours) than 40K. During the hour long session, learners will be introduced to the rules of the game, the mechanics of how it works and the strategies behind competitive play. The game is much easier to learn in a live session than reading rules online. This class will offer learners the chance to interact and ask questions as we go, so their learning is solidified. Warhammer is not just a game, but a complete hobby. Players generally collect different "Kill Teams" with their own set or rules and strategies, and build and paint models, which is a hobby on its own. No purchase of the game or any supplies is needed to take this class. If learners like how the game works, we will go over everything that is needed to play at the end of the class.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello Everyone,
My name is Matt and I am have been teaching middle and high school STEM classes for 15 years in Ontario, Canada. In 2009, I was also lucky enough to have the opportunity to teach Science classes at an international school in Kuwait for two years.
My educational background is in Zoology and Evolutionary Biology (B.Sc) where I focused intensively on herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians). I have worked at several zoos over the years (in the education and conservation departments) often planning public outreach educational programming related to reptiles and other animals.
I also have a Master's of Education in Global Leadership and I am passionate about teaching science and connecting the concepts we learn to real-life. The PD that I have focused on over the last 5 years has included high level project based learning concepts which I used in my classes extensively.
I currently teach middle school science and AP level Biology at an independent school outside of Toronto, Canada. My educational philosophy is rooted in hands-on and experiential education. I always ensure that my classes have a large experiential component to them and students are actively involved in the class. I am a huge supporter of problem solving in the classroom and very often use the design thinking process to facilitate learning, no matter what topic we are studying.
Over the course of my teaching career, I have been awarded the "Innovation in Pedagogy" Award from the BHNCDSB as well as the Teaching Travel Grant Award (which I used to study Permaculture in Argentina).
I hope to see you in class soon!
Matt
