Welcome to our dynamic Latinx Lit middle-grade book club! In this club we'll explore enriching books crafted for ages 11-13, starting with "Barely Floating" by Lilliam Rivera and followed by some amazing award winning books. Each book spans five sessions where we delve into its themes through interactive discussions, character analyses, and creative activities. Students read chapters independently and prepare with pre-class brainstorm questions, ensuring vibrant discussions that connect the stories' cultural richness with our own experiences. My teaching style is interactive and adaptable. I begin each session by introducing the book, summarizing key points, and reading aloud to set the scene. Discussions are open and lively, focusing on cultural insights and why these narratives matter. Multimedia elements like slideshows add visual context, while follow-up activities and discussions extend learning beyond the classroom. Schedule of Books: July 31 - August 28: Barely Floating by Lilliam Rivera September 4 - October 2: Warrior Girl by Carmen Tafolla October 9 - November 13: The Smoking Mirror by David Bowles November 20 - December 18: Cuba in My Pocket by Adrianna Cuevas Join us for an exploration of diverse voices and powerful stories that inspire, educate, and celebrate Latinx heritage.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
With five years of experience as a librarian and over two years as a library director, I bring a strong background in curating content, leading book clubs, and developing educational programs. I am currently working towards a bachelor's degree in Chicano Studies, having completed over 60 college credits and obtained certificates from the Mexican American Studies Teacher Academy in 2022 and 2024, where I had the opportunity to attend small setting lectures and interact with authors like David Bowles and Carmen Tafolla. Additionally, I have earned continuing education hours from the Texas Library Association Conference 2024. My experience includes implementing RTI for reading in school settings, and as the president of a nonprofit organization focused on fostering sustainable growth in rural communities through cultural enrichment, I have successfully developed and led numerous cultural programs and events.
