This course teaches a little over 100 Latin and Greek root words and several prefixes and suffixes. By the end of the course, learners could learn up to 500 vocabulary words depending on the participation and interactions of the class. The number of vocabulary words learned is up to each individual, but they will at least learn 100 from the root words alone. The lessons in the classes will be presented via video. The student-paced class includes videos, worksheets, and root word lists. There is no requirement for learners to meet live or to appear onscreen. At the end of each main lesson, there is a worksheet for the student to complete and share in the Outschool classroom if so inclined, or if they want the worksheets graded. This assignment might require a dictionary or online access to a dictionary or website. For learners who wish to add to their learning, they may look up root words and their origins in order to create new words from the root words learned. For example: a student may look up the Greek word for sound "phone" to discover the word "cacophony" is a word derived from it. This optional assignment is intended to encourage participation and interaction to help increase the effectiveness of learning new vocabulary words from root words. Each main lesson we will tackle at least 25 root words and affixes. All answer keys for the homework are given in the lesson after it is assigned.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve and expand their vocabulary, learn better spelling from learning the root words, learn how to better pronounce words from learning the root words, and they will be able to recognize unfamiliar words from knowing the word's root.
