Latín 1 (Clase 2): La clave del rompecabezas latino: casos y declinaciones

Class 2 will begin by reviewing the material from Class 1. We will also expand our greetings to include further conversation. In addition to reviewing the first and second verb conjugations, we will now learn about the Latin cases (which correlate to the English parts of speech: subjects, direct and indirect objects, prepositions, direct address, adverbial clauses, conjunctions, etc). Students will begin putting Latin sentence structure into practice. There will be some basic sight reading as well as using our vocabulary lists to translate paragraphs from Horace and Catullus (both appropriate for this age range). 

I will use a slide show to show the materials, as well as a white board. Students will need to bring a dedicated notebook to class, along with a pen or pencil. I usually teach lecture style, and I always encourage my students to speak out in class because I value their opinions and thoughts. Students are encouraged to interact with me and other students. I fully believe education is a conversation, and builds a sense of community through discussion. There is some oral repetition when learning the verb endings and case endings, and it's helpful for students to write these down in their notebooks after class.
