I will offer feedback after students perform an exercise and, if needed, provide suggestions to help the student master the concept. Mistakes are a part of learning a musical instrument! So students should not worry if they play the exercise or a piece correct on the first try. Together we will learn how to progress through new music and learn new musical concepts.Experiencia de clase
Please note: This class picks up where Beginning Piano Level F leaves off. Prospective students should be able to read standard notation in C position and G position, be able to identify 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th intervals, transpose pieces to G position, understand sharps and flats, understand how to use dynamic contrast (crescendo, diminuendo etc), and have an understanding of articulation markings. Sight reading music is essential to this class so prospective students should be comfortable with reading music in Level 2A Piano Adventures series (previous book). In this class, students will continue to develop their sight-reading skills, learn how to play more expressively, read and play in different time signatures and continue to develop dynamic control and phrasing. Week One: Review rhythms, intervals, 5 note scales, major and minor chords and music terminology. Identify different C locations in the grand staff. Begin a new piece in using flats and focus on dynamic phrasing. Learn a new piece using high C notes. Week Two: Review pieces from week one. Practice playing a piece using staccato in the left hand while sustaining notes in the right hand. Learn various cross hand arpeggio patterns. Week Three: Review pieces from week two. Learn Spanish Caballero. Add pedal and focus on creating legato cross-hand arpeggios. Discuss intervals of 6ths. Week Four: Review exercises and pieces from previous weeks. Continue discussion of 6th intervals. Learn Boxcar Rumble and The Great Clock with mini improvisation. Week Five: Review pieces from week four. Learn a new piece using 1st and 2nd endings. Continue practicing intervals of 6th in music. Learn to play C Major scale (one octave). Begin a piece using ascending and descending C Major scales. Week Six: Continue with pieces using ascending and descending C Major scale. Learn different versions of the V7 chord. Discuss waltz pattern and feel. Learn a piece using waltz pattern. Learn G Major scale (one octave). Begin two short spirituals.
