Students will continue to work in their spelling and vocabulary notebooks as we begin a fantasy book. Students will vote on a book such as The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe or The Christmas Pig. Students will also have the option to read an additional fantasy book of their choosing and create a book report and give a presentation. Each novel will be assessed through conversation in class. Comprehension questions will be provided for each novel and fit into the interactive notebooks. There will be many opportunities for students to work together as well as independently. If your student prefers to work soon, please let me know upon enrollment so I can keep a note. We will do a variety of projects including drawing, building, writing/book reports, cooking, crafts, food art, etc. Please don’t feel like you have to go buy materials for any of the projects unless you want to. There will be plenty of ways to make each thing! Be sure to join for Semester 2! Nonfiction and Mythology Holidays: I have tried to account for traditional holiday schedules. If your student needs time off for other holidays/reasons during the semester please let me know and I will work with you to make up any days missed.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in Southern California. I love working with students all around the World and of all different ages. I mainly teach classes that are Language Arts based (reading, writing, spelling, and grammar). I also teach about Historical figures, especially if I can tie them into Literature. I also love teaching about animals, and doing story time for the younger kids.
I have been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught in traditional school settings, charter schools, home schooled my own children, and taught online. I have a BA in English as well as a K-12 Teaching Credential. I am very passionate about helping people learn to love reading and writing. I also love to help people that need a little extra help with spelling and grammar. It makes me so proud and happy to have a student tell me how much they think they are improving or to get answers correct on something they missed before.
My approach to teaching is interactive and hands on. I want my students to learn while having fun. I ask a lot of comprehension questions, group work, pair work, and projects (depending on the class). I try to do as much of the work in class as possible so that kids can still be kids once they are done.
My background is in English but I love History and Science too (especially the experiments). It wouldn't be unusual in one of my classes to have to make something that just pops into my mind because it seems fun. I love animals, chocolate, and all things Disney!
