In this ongoing intermediate class, students will practice their knitting skills and learn new stitches. Each class is a "stand alone" class and students may join at any time. This class meets EVERY OTHER WEEK, giving students more time to work on their new stitches. See schedule below for dates! Knitting is such a great skill to learn, something that students can do for their whole life! In our "technology-centered" society, knitting gives young people something new to focus on and develop. Knitting also helps with critical thinking as students learn to do problem-solving with their knitting. Each class, students will be taught a new stitch. The class will be structured as a workshop where students will learn how to do something and then will practice what they learned. All stitch patterns in Knitting Club will be based on the knit and purl stitches and a written pattern will be provided. Students will practice the new stitch and develop a portfolio of stitches that they can use in their own projects. Some students may want to be in Knitting Club simply for social reasons, and that is a huge part of Knitting Club! It is always fun to be in a club with others who share our interests! Mrs. Borton is a very experienced and knowledgeable knitting teacher. She has taught hundreds of students to knit through her knitting club at her school, through her other jobs at local craft stores, and on Outschool. She is patient and encouraging with students. PRIOR KNOWLEDGE - This is an Intermediate Class! Before joining this class, students need to know how to do the knit and purl stitches and be comfortable switching between knit and purl in the same row, like what is done in ribbing. Students should also be comfortable doing a basic cable. It is recommended that students take another knitting class to learn the basics before joining Knitting Club. Please see Mrs. Borton's other class called, "Knitting Class - Learn How to Knit, Purl, and More" to learn the building blocks of knitting. Here is the schedule for class.
