This is an ongoing class that meets 4 times a week to work around a single theme. Each week we will focus our learning around 2 weekly stories, 3-4 sight words, phonological skills, phonics, a literary element, and Kindergarten appropriate writing. Each story pair will focus on listening comprehension and story elements. We will use the weekly story element to compare the 2 stories. We will connect the writing/drawing activity to the stories each week. This is an Ongoing Class and students may JOIN AT ANYTIME. Activities are designed learners with basic Kindergarten skills. Students should be familiar with at least 20-30 sight words, blending, and should be able to copy sentences. We will work on Phonological Skills such as ending sounds, medial sounds, segmenting sounds, and lots more! Each week will follow the same format, but work on different skills and different stories to keep the interest of the learners. We will focus on decoding, spelling patterns, basic grammar skills and many more! Since this is an ongoing class, it is designed for learners to join or leave at any time. This class will work on 18 week cycle. All skills will cycle through more than once during the 18 week cycle. Stories will be unique to the time of year or skill of the week. Learners should know all letters and sounds fluently, read at least 20 sight words, and should be able to connect sounds to letters when forming words. This class is an academic class, not a social class. Students may be muted for short periods during the lesson to minimize background noise and maximize learning time. I will provide weekly resources to allow the learner multiple ways to continue their learning outside class time. Students will be given a weekly information sheet with the skills of the week and sight word flashcards to cut out and use for further practice. In addition, students will receive multiple cut and paste activities, coloring, and writing practice paper for multiple levels of writing capabilities to help them practice their learning outside of class. Many of the activities, worksheets and papers are materials I used in my independent centers in my classroom. After some practice, students should be able to complete the activities with minimal help. Learners Should know all letter names, all letter sounds, be able to blend CVC words with assistance, recognize most of the basic sight words listed below, and be able to copy a 3 word sentence (I am not concerned with neatness). Sight words to know: I, can, see, the, you, and, we, is, are, he, she, was, they, like, go, my, with, play -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🖍️Monday: • Read Story 1 • decide fiction/nonfiction • Comprehension questions • Sight words practice • Phonological skill • Practice making simple sentences using known sight words. 🖍️Tuesday • Reread story 1 • Comprehension questions • Sight word Practice • Phonics skill • Students begin to write their own sentence 🖍️Wednesday • Read story 2 • Discuss story element to compare stories • Sight word practice • Phonological Skill • Student add to sentence writing. 🖍️Thursday • Reread story 2 • Complete a story element activity to compare stories • Sight word practice • Phonics Skill • Students add a drawing to the story and share their writings/drawings ⭐If a student misses a class, there will be a recording available to view so your child won't miss any of the lessons from the week. Ongoing classes are designed so that students may come and go without needing to attend prior classes - the classes during the week build on one another however each week is taught in isolation. Students can drop in any week they they like!
