This class is designed to help early readers build early reading skills by learning sight words. Consistent practice will make these words automatic, allowing them to read more fluently. This routine will give students regular opportunities to practice memorizing sight words. In this ongoing class, students will follow a basic routine that will maximize exposure to 10 sight words each week. Each class will be packed with fast-paced games that give opportunity for constant participation, and team work among students. Sight words follow the list Fry's First 100 Words. Each week will be a bit different, but will follow the same basic routine and cover the same concepts. The following is a breakdown of the first 4 weeks of class. Week 1: Sight Words: some, no, look, he, is, this, he, than, now, back Week 2: Sight Words: use, when, my, has, she, how, give, good, we, you Week 3: Sight Words: would, him, get, who, say, know, what, do, take, if Week 4: Sight words: an, not, to, the, up, me, as, was, your, have I have planned for 10 sight words per week. This might seem like a lot, but we are meeting three times per week, so there will be lots of practice opportunities. I will also give out lists and worksheets for students if they'd like to continue study after our time together, so if they don't master the words during the week, they will have had exposure to the words, and will be on their way to memorization. On Fridays we will play a game called Beat The Teacher! where students try to work as a team to read all the sight words.
Metas de aprendizaje
Each week students will focus on 10 sight words. Students will be able to read these words in isolation, and will have opportunity to read them in the context of simple sentences.

Orientación para padres
I will sometimes play a game with the students using a PowerPoint presentation. These games will involve much movement, so make sure the students have space to stand, jump, and even run in place. If not properly supervised, my biggest worry is that students will try to stand on a chair and try these movements. I will always make a disclaimer before the activity "You may stand if you'd like to, but make sure you stand on the floor and not on a chair."
