"Kickoff to Kwanzaa - Learning Culture and History Through Craft and Music" is a one-time, 45-minute session that provides an overview of the history of Kwanzaa, its connection to African and African American culture, and the ways this holiday is celebrated globally today. The session begins with students learning about the creator of Kwanzaa and what the the first celebration looked like. Students will then be introduced to the seven principles of Kwanzaa and the meaning of each. As we discuss each day, learners will "light" their cutout flames and glue them to the appropriate candle on their printout kinara. Students will then have a chance to listen to music that celebrates the holiday and share their craft with their classmates.

"Kickoff to Kwanzaa - Learning Culture and History Through Craft and Music" is an engaging way to introduce young learners to this cultural holiday and to more closely explore African American culture, community, and celebration.
