- These creative reading and writing sessions will enable learners to create imaginative stories. - Each lesson we will look at a piece of children's literature, and talk about words/sentences used. This will be followed by an individual topic each session, where learners create their own imaginative writing. - We begin with a warm up, then go straight into a piece of children's text. Every learner will have the opportunity to comment on the text, generating ideas for their written work. We will play around with some words, sentences, and onomatopoeias, with every learner looking at a new word they can create. A new topic for each session will be introduced, and learners are able to create a piece of imaginative writing, whilst I guide and assist every learner individually. Learners creative pieces can be read out at the end, if they are willing. - The first part of the session will be lead by me, though I do like learners to interact as much as possible. I will set the tasks in the middle, but learners begin to take over now. The final part of session is where learners will do the majority of the interaction. - I like to keep things as fun as possible, so learners retain the information easier. - Interaction from learners will start from the very beginning of the session, and it will get progressively more throughout. Each learner will speak to both me, and the other learners, and I may ask them all to use the interactive whiteboard. - This is an ongoing class, so learners are welcome to attend whichever sessions they want. Each session stands alone, so no previous experience or knowledge is required. Just bring your imaginations! "Nice to meet you! I am Kate, and I live in York, UK. I am a qualified Drama and English Teacher of 22 years, having worked in both private and state schools.
During this time I have been the Head of the Drama Department, in two separate schools, and I also set-up and run Performance Arts courses. I love teaching about how to put a performance together, from design to choreography, and everything else in between. I am also very passionate about literature, especially scripts, from the likes of the great Oscar Wilde to Anton Chekov.
My teaching ethos is that I like to give each individual learner equal amounts of my attention and expertise, so that the get the maximum benefit from my classes. I encourage learners to be as imaginative and as creative as they can possibly be. I use humour as a way of engaging learners, and also as a tool to help them retain their new found knowledge. I get huge satisfaction from seeing my learners being enthusiastic and inquisitive.
I have just completed my Masters in Screenwriting, focusing my area of study on movie scripts, and I was awarded a first in my final project. I am teaching literature based classes, as well as writing movie scripts, for the rest of my professional career.
I was born in Singapore, and I have briefly lived in the Netherlands and Malta. I now live in a wooden lodge with my two large dogs, surrounded by forests and farmland, with only a ten minute drive to York city centre. I love taking my dogs on long walks, and my hobbies include: dressmaking, up-cycling, yoga, spinning, and completing puzzles. It is very quiet where I live, so I am able to focus on my work and do lots of writing, in front of my wood burning fire!
Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you require any further information, or if you would like a course booking in at another time, and I will do my upmost to accommodate you. Thank you."
