Welcome to Jump In! A Japanese Club for Beginners. In this ongoing course, students (ages 9-13) will learn to speak Japanese! We will meet once a week, and every session will focus on a theme. As each class is thematic, students can jump in at any week. Students will also be exposed to the Japanese hiragana system. They will see the vocabulary in both English and Japanese script and romaji (using Roman letters to write Japanese words). This is just for introducing the hiragana system and not a requirement for them to learn to read. Furthermore, they will learn phonetic pronunciation. It is vital that students feel welcome and excited about learning. While having fun, we will also practice good classroom etiquette. The class will be interactive, and students will get a chance to speak with one another and learn to do so in an orderly fashion. Using Total Physical Response (TPR) and props, I will engage students to make quick connections with words and phrases. Let’s get ready to learn and have fun!
