Does your learner enjoy classic fairytales? I do, too! This engaging 2-Day summer reading camp, focuses on Compare & Contrast, Sequencing, Comprehension, and Point of View literary elements based on national standards. In class, students will hear, discuss, and write about two perspectives of the classic fairytale, "Jack & the Beanstalk." We'll get to hear from Jack's point-of-view, and from the giant's point-of-view, too! How do the stories differ? I hope your learner will join me to find out! Each class, I will read one version of the story aloud and students will fine tune their comprehension skills by actively participating in answering higher-order thinking questions throughout the story, engaging with me, and hearing from each other. At the conclusion of the story, we will complete a graphic organizer as a class (writing activity), with the guidance of the teacher. Details are below! Day 1: Teacher reads the story from Jack's point-of-view. Students practice comprehension skills and are asked questions for discussion. After reading, students work with the teacher to complete a "Sequencing" graphic organizer where they will practice writing and narrating the events of the story in chronological order. (There will be a handout sent home before class to print out so students can write on it during class) Day 2: Teacher reads the story from the Giant's point-of-view, using the book, "Giants Have Feeling, Too." Students engage in comprehension practice and discussion throughout the story. After reading, students will work with the teacher to write and complete a "Compare & Contrast" graphic organizer, focusing on the two perspectives and how they are alike or different. (There will be a handout sent before class to print out) I'm looking forward to seeing your learner in class! Have a wonderful day! ~Teacher Stefanie

Orientación para padres
"Jack & the Beanstalk" is an old English fairytale. In case you are unfamiliar with the story, it includes a mean-giant as the villain in the story. (At least that is the "point-of-view" of the character, Jack, who steals from the giant). Please be aware, as in many old fairytales, the villain does die. In one of the retellings, the giant falls, hits his head, and doesn't wake up again. Although, we will also be reading a version of the story told from the point-of-view of the "nice-giant" and in this retelling he lives!
Lista de útiles escolares
There will be two "print-outs" attached to the welcome email after enrolling in the class. Students will use them for the writing activities. They will be provided by the teacher for you to print out. Thank you!

In addition to teaching, I enjoy nature, photography, art, running, getting cozy with a good movie or book,📚and spending time with family and friends. 😊
One thing I have always loved is customizing and personalizing 1-on-1 tutoring classes for individual students ages 7-12, in reading, writing, and math. Whether a class is 1-on-1, whole group in person, or small group online, it is such a privilege to support my students by giving them a solid foundation in their early education, to build upon throughout their years. Above all, I love encouraging my students and watching their confidence grow! I am looking forward to meeting your learner in class! 🤗
