Experiencia de clase

Game night is my favorite night of the week!

In this ongoing class tweens and teens are invited to get together for fun, laughter and, of course, board games.

Tabletop games are more that just Monopoly and Clue. There is a vast, rich, world of strategic board games available to us and they are such a fantastic way for kids to engage their minds while connecting with some friends and having some laughs.

Each week we will play a different strategy based board game or card game. These games will include but not be limited to: Carcassonne, KingDomino, Kingdom builder, and Sushi Go!

Games will be hosted on boardgamearena.com and shared through the screen share function in Outschool. Learners will have the choice of signing in on a second device to join our game or they may simply join the Outschool meeting and take their turns verbally with the instructor moving their pieces or cards for them. Either option is bound to be a good time.

Our classes will start off with a silly joke of the day to get the giggles rolling. We will then spend a few minutes going over our game rules for the week. Games will begin quickly as I believe the best way to learn is to do! Most of our games will take most of an hour to complete. For shorter games we may play multiple rounds or double up and play two different games in one class. An example of this would be Sushi Go! and Just Desserts. Both of which are incredibly fun games, but rather short in length.

Weekly breakdown:
Week of Dec 1st:
We will play KingDomino

Week of Dec 8th:
We will play Carcassonne

Week of Dec 15th:
We will play Potion Explosion

Week of Dec 22nd:
We will play Draftosaurus

Metas de aprendizaje

Learners will practice critical thinking and basic strategy planning skills all while building their social skills.

I'm an avid reader, and an author.
I was never so surprised in all my life as when my son told me he "just wasn't into reading" and that he thought "writing was the worst part of school." I had to think quick before he missed out on all the magic that I knew was waiting for him within the pages of books.
And so family book club was born. And then books and friends, and soon my house was overflowing with reluctant readers bouncing up and down and waiting desperately to tell Miss Tammi all their favorite bits from last week's reading.
I have spent ten years coaxing children into eager readers and confident writers. I love to watch those smiles light up when they realize there is a whole hidden world inside of books. In that world they never need to try to fit in, or please other people. In that world they are welcomed, they are wanted, and they are inspired.
