Children need time to socialize and have fun, even online. Games are a great way to do that…but how? In this on-going, drop-in class, the students will be playing games as a way to interact with each other and learn socializing skills. I will lead the games, with the goal that the students will be the primary players and I will only be a resource to prepare and facilitate the games, as well as conduct classroom management. The games will primarily be interactive (everyone can play or see the game on the screen,) or acted out like charades. The games will change weekly and will be repeated occasionally. - Unless there is a special game, there will be no printing required. - No games will use internet access, usually I am sharing a PowerPoint that I have created and the children are participating by taking turns. - Learners may be required to bring dice or other items to class - I will post the game and all required items in the classroom the Sunday prior to class. If there are many items required for a special game, I will usually give 2 weeks notice and again 1 week. - Games are primarily self-created in PowerPoint and used only as a screen-share. The learners will no need to log in to play along. Upcoming Games: Feb 3: Zoomed In- Can you guess what what the picture is before it zooms out? Feb 10: - Space Race- Play the space race and answer some trivia questions. Feb 17: I Spy- I Spy with my little eye...what will we find? Feb 24: Mad Libs- We'll put on our silly Zoom filters, come up with some outrageous words, and create our own funny stories as a group. Everything subject to change based on needs of the class and determination of the teacher. A few of the other games we play include: Scategories: We will choose age-appropriate themes to create words that start with a particular letter in a timed, competitive game (or as a group.) Guess the Animal: I will share a close-up picture and the learners will guess what animal it is as I slowly zoom out. Hangman style word guessing game: I have created an eye-catching hangman-style style word game. I will try to stump the class (or they will take turns trying to stump each other,) as the class goes one by one trying to guess the next letter. Mystery Box: In this game the learners have to decide whether to keep or give the box to the other team. There might be + or - points in the box. Scavenger Hunt: I will have a scavenger hunt list and send the kids off around the house to collect items in a certain amount of time. The items requested will be things that all children can find, such as, “find something fuzzy.” Charades: The teacher and children will take turns acting out phrases while the children guess the phrase. Secret Simon Says: We will take turns being the Secret Simon. And many, many more...
Metas de aprendizaje
The student will learn socialization skills. At the same time, it is my intent that the games keep their brains active, recalling information that they may already know.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello! I am a certified art teacher, and taught both art and preschool for many years. Like many of you, I homeschooled my son for 12 years. He is now in college and I am excited to share my love for teaching with your children. I’ve been teaching children of all ages for almost 25 years. I teach art classes for ages 3-18. In my art classes, you will find many multi-media, 3-D activities, and messy projects. I teach preschool classes with plenty of puppets and songs. I'm also a bit of a "techie," so I teach games classes, where I make my own games, teach students to create DIY games, and I also create and run art escape rooms.
In addition to being a homeschool mom, I also have a BS degree in Art Education and was a High School and Elementary School art teacher. I continued taking Master’s level classes in Elementary Education while I taught preschool. I am certified to teach art in the state of Pennsylvania. I also hold a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate and I currently teach English online to children in other countries. I have many years’ experience coaching STEM activities, robotics, and Tae Kwon Do. I was born with a rare heart condition and have had many surgeries to repair it. Because of this, I only teach students online now.
I encourage my students to think outside the box and be creative. While I may offer a project, I am actually teaching a process; it’s about what the child learns, not always what he or she creates…but usually we create some great things! I have been told numerous times that I am very energetic and extremely patient. These characteristics are helpful in an art classroom, but especially in my preschool classroom.
When I’m not teaching, I like to walk my dogs, play with my cats, and cook. My delicious cooking ensures that my son comes home often to visit.
