Experiencia de clase

This course will explore music from the Classical Period. Learners will learn about different musical styles, composers, works, music theory, performance practices, and cultural and intellectual history that was developed and prominent during this period of time. Learners will apply research through written assignments, as well as musical and theoretical skills gained in lower-division music systems and theory classes in analytical assignments. The following is a weekly schedule of the different topics that will be discussed. 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐬

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟏: 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐕𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐳𝐳𝐨. 
Learners will continue to develop their knowledge about vocal music during the early classical period and the development of the intermezzo. There will be a listening assignment provided by the teacher. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟐: 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬: 𝐁𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦 
Learners will be introduced to new instrumental forms that will include the binary and sonata forms. They will also listen to different examples that incorporate these forms. There will be an assignment that will be provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟑: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 
Learners will continue to develop their knowledge about classical instrumental music through the study of the early symphony and the classical concerto. There will be an assignment that will be provided by the instructor. 
 
𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟒: 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝟏𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬: 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐳 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐇𝐚𝐲𝐝𝐧
Learners will learn about the music of Franz Joseph Haydn and his influences on the string quartet. There will be an assignment provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟓: 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐳 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐇𝐚𝐲𝐝𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲
Learners will learn about the development of the symphony and its origins. There will be a listening assignment provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟔: 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐮𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐭: 𝐊𝐞𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬
Learners will be introduced to one of the most important late eighteenth-century composers, W.A. Mozart. This class will focus on his keyboard work. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟕: 𝐌𝐨𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐭: 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲 & 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚
Learners will continue to learn more about music from the classical period that will include Mozart's symphonies and operas. A listening assignment will be provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟖: 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬
Learners will do a presentation about a musical work from one of the composers that has not been discussed in class. 

Assignments will be due two days prior to the scheduled meeting to allow the instructor to provide timely feedback to the learner via the Outschool classroom. The assignments are designed to help reinforce the topics learned in each session. While it is recommended to purchase the textbook, the teacher will provide all the materials needed for the learners in this class. This course will use video examples, and assignment explanations, and will provide feedback.

Each lesson is a combination of lectures via PowerPoint, listening, and written discussion about the material covered in the lesson. Students will also be able to create and play games like Kahoot! with the instructor of the course. The teacher will also post a question of the week in the classroom to encourage class discussion that will reflect the material that they have learned. Students will complete their assignments in the form of a recording and upload them to the classroom where the instructor will provide feedback to the learner for their work. There will also be different music applications used for the course that will encourage interaction between learners.

Currently serves at the Banting Postdoctoral Fellow (2024-2026) at Concordia University, Montréal, she is also recipient of the Fulbright and Portuguese Science & Technology awards. She is an internationally known linguist, teacher, and professional musician who has taught on four continents. Her passion for service stemmed from her work as an AmeriCorps Vista Fellow. In her spare time, she likes to play with her pet rabbit, Señor Blanco.

She has also been a volunteer for 5 years, teaching various subjects across the country of Mexico, during her free time. She is a cat person, who cannot start her day without a cup of coffee. She loves watching films and reading classic novels.
