Experiencia de clase

In this 7 week Flex Course, we students will learn 4 elements of design and how they relate to fashion.

Topics and Course Structure:
This is a self-paced class, and all lessons will be prerecorded video lessons with instructions, online materials, and an optional supply list for that week's project. By If students upload a photo of their progress, I am happy to provide feedback. I will also post an optional discussion question that students can respond to on the classroom discussion board. These discussion questions are intended to get learners talking about fashion.

Week 1: Color: Students will learn about the color wheel, and explore what color they feel most comfortable wearing.
The Week 1 Project will consist of creating a creative color wheel.

Week 2: Color Scheme: Students will lean about the different color schemes, including complementary, analogous, triadic, monochromatic, neutrals, and accented neutrals.
For the Week 2 Project, students will put together outfits from clothing in their closet or use photos from a magazine or online that represent different color schemes.

Week 3: Line: Students will learn about how the line in a garment produces a visual illusion. Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and curved lines all create different visual illusions. Week 3 Assignment: Identify lines in various images of garments.

Week 4: Shape / Silhouette: Students will learn the definition of silhouette and be able to identify different silhouettes or shapes found in garments.
The Week 4 Project will include an illustration representing different silhouettes/shapes found in fashion. Students may also want to identify different silhouettes found in their own wardrobes.

Week 5: Texture: Students will learn how texture is used in Fashion.
For the Week 5 Project, students will create texture using items such as flower petals, pasta noodles, or paper clips, on a paper garment design.

Week 6: Simple Fashion Sketch: Students will learn how to create a simple fashion sketch

Week 7: Final Project

How will I teach?
For this course, I will prerecord a detailed lesson and demonstration of the project each week. Learners may ask questions through the classroom discussion or direct message to me and I will respond within 24 hours.

Learners do not need to begin this course with any prior knowledge.

As a high school Family and Consumer Science teacher, I love teaching the elements and principles of design through fashion and interior design.
Metas de aprendizaje
The learning goal for the beginning fashion class, is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental elements of design and how they relate specifically to the world of fashion. By the end of the course, students should be able to:

Identify and differentiate various colors, understand color theory, and analyze the psychological and emotional impact of colors in fashion.

Recognize different types of lines in fashion design and understand how they can influence the overall appearance and mood of a garment.

Appreciate the importance of texture in fashion and its role in creating visual interest, depth, and tactile appeal in clothing and accessories.

Understand the significance of shape in fashion design and how different silhouettes can flatter different body types and convey various fashion statements.

Apply their knowledge of color, line, texture, and shape to create cohesive and aesthetically pleasing fashion ensembles and outfits.

Explore various fashion styles and aesthetics to discover their own personal style preferences.

Gain exposure to historical and contemporary fashion designs, understanding how designers have utilized color, line, texture, and shape to make their creations unique and iconic.

Develop basic fashion sketching skills to visually represent design ideas incorporating the elements of color, line, texture, and shape.

Engage in hands-on exercises and projects that involve selecting fabrics, combining colors and shapes, and experimenting with textures to create fashion pieces.

Reflect on the significance of creativity and innovation in fashion design and how the elements of design can be used to push boundaries and challenge conventional norms.

By achieving these learning goals, students will have a solid foundation in the fundamental elements of fashion design, allowing them to pursue further studies in the field or explore their creativity in designing their own unique fashion pieces.

Education is my passion. I truly believe that as educators it is our job to not only provide meaningful curriculum to create well-educated individuals but to inspire students to become lifelong learners. We should celebrate student achievements and guide them to find their true passions.
I currently teach high school Family and Consumer Sciences. My favorite part of teaching CTE classes is the hands-on real-world experiences that prepare students for life after high school. In my classes, students explore career options, learn to manage their finances, write professional resumes and fill out job applications. Students practice effective communication skills, and event planning, participate in mock interviews, learn basic sewing skills and cook healthy inexpensive meals.
My professional background includes:
Bachelors of Arts in Psychology
Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
4 years of experience as a 1:1 and small group tutor
Single Subject Home Economics Teaching Credential
10 years of experience teaching high school Family and Consumer Sciences
Master of Arts in Education - Educational Administration
Preliminary Administration Credential
I also have 4 years of experience teaching preschool.
