The purpose of this class will be to prepare and guide students into developing English Language Arts skills to confidently and successfully apply towards upperclassmen learning academics. I choose to use the word "introduction" in the course title because as early learners the foundation is not set and the learning process is still in the early stages. The skills learned in this class will aide in academic growth as elementary students. This class will be taught with the use of lectures, slide presentations and classroom interactive activities. Conventional teaching methods will be utilized for me to interact with students and for students to interact with each other. I will call on students to answer questions to check for understanding. Also, students will be given opportunities to form their own questions to ask fellow students (ex. students will write a sentence on the whiteboard and call on a fellow student to identify all the nouns). This will give them the opportunity to apply their knowledge. This class will meet twice a week. Day 1 of every week will cover grammar and writing skills. Day 2 of every week will cover comprehension skills. Students should be able to read and write based on their grade level.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have a Bachelor's of Arts in English from Marist College and have been working as a substitute teacher for a school district in New York. I am offering this class to help build a solid foundation for the academic English. Teaching mostly in middle and high schools, it has become apparent to me that modern students have a weak foundation in English Language Arts. So much emphasis is placed on technology that teaching basic grammar and comprehension skills have become obsolete. Students' comprehension skills are very basic in structure and effort. So, I have decided to become part of the solution.
