In this one time class you will learn the basics of value drawing. I will begin the lesson with a brief presentation describing what value is and how light affects it. I will lead you through making a value scale of your own and then lead you through shading a sphere with charcoal. I have a pre-recorded video in real time showing my drawing, this way you can have a high quality video and see the actual time and corrections that I made on my drawing. I will walk you through the video demonstration step by step. The video demonstration takes approximately 50 minutes to complete and I will describe how I am layering my charcoal, erasing, and blending to create a convincing three-dimensional looking form. This is a great class to help you brush up on your observational drawing skills and become more confident in handling the value range within your own drawings and paintings. No prior experience is required, but some knowledge of charcoal drawing materials would be helpful. Students are encouraged to ask questions and ask for feedback throughout the lesson.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn how to use the value scale to create three-dimensional looking sphere drawings. These skills can be applied to other realistic drawings and paintings.

Lista de útiles escolares
Willow or Vine Charcoal Charcoal Pencils - I prefer the brand, General's. Please have a range of softness: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B - 2H if you can find it! Blending Stump Kneaded Eraser Drawing Paper Sharpener - I love the PowerMe electric sharpener because it rarely breaks my charcoal points. Not needed, but highly recommended: Tombow Mono Zero Refillable Eraser - round Most of these supplies can be found at your local craft store or you can order them from art supply stores such as Jerry's Artarama or Blick Art Materials. The electric PowerMe sharpener can be found on Amazon or Walmart, but any sharpener will work.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I will be teaching a range of art classes for young artists that want to have fun and teen artists that are more serious about their artistic skills. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and a minor in art history, as well as 2.5 years of classical realism atelier training. I am a full time professional artist and I love to teach! I have been teaching children and adults for the past 5+ years. I believe that having as much artistic training as you can early on will benefit your professional career as an artist. When I'm not painting and teaching, you will find me outside in the mountains. I love to go hiking, camping, and skiing. You might even catch me with my easel outdoors!
